Hi
I
am looking for some advice on what board to put onto a wall I am going to tile.

The wall is plastered with vinyl silk paint on it, I am turning the room into a wet room and the total area to be tiled is about 8sq M.

Tiles to be hung are 300mmx600mm Porcelain tiles

I wish to board the wall as the existing wall is quite uneven and there are pipes and wires that have been chased into the wall.

I am confused between the following products and hope you guys can advise on which one would be best for my situation. I want to do this job once and once only.

a) Hardibacker Board
b) Marmox Board
c) Knauf Aquaboard
d) No More Ply

Many thanks in advance of your replies

Great Poll.. and welcome to Tilers forums..

Marmox will be the best for a true wetroom.. you will need to use the joint tape to complete tanking..

seeing that you havent included wedi board, i'll go for marmox too!
much better at insulating your substrates and if you/your customer have the budget to fit this king of board then you should. we need to conserve as much energy and heat in a building as we can ;0) thats the challenge the whole building industry face over the next decade..

wedi/marmox also carry more weight too!!

Based on the responses so far, it looks Marmox is the one I will go with. I have found an online supplier, however is this board stocked by the major trade supplier i.e. TP, Jewson etc. and would places like Tops Tiles have it ?

Marmox all the way.......the time experience online is the cheapest place to buy these as far as I know!

I love Hardie and would normally say this, however, with Marmox you are much better off as no further tanking after, only taping edges so go there....!
