Recently done a job using microflex charcoal grout on porcalain tiles.Mixed ok,went on ok,did all the normal stuff, but when i came back the next day there was white streaks all over>ive just been called in to sort an expensive bathroom out that a `top` bathroom company bodged. The same grout i think has been used and the same thing has happened by the looks of it.Any ideas? i think it is the product. also any ideas how to sort it as its in slate mosaic`s! Its to difficult to take the grout out,i have tried and its a nightmare!

Give BAL a call and speak to their tech department. Sounds like efflouresence to me.

To much water when washing excess grout off( Efflorescence)......try lithofin cement away....but ring bal tech first..

This quite common with that colour grout....

Grouting too soon after fixing the tiles increases the risk of efflorescence, especially if you use porcelain tiles, because they're so dense. That means it takes a bit longer for the adhesive to dry out properly.

Thanks guys..I used mapei rapid addy and grouted 24 hrs later. That is enough time isn`t it? I was careful with sponging off also.

Then i think it is a call to BAL tech help line...they will resolve this for you...

Efflorescence my nuts!!! I had the same problem 3 weeks ago with the same colour and make of grout. I was told the same thing as you , but i kept all the left over grout i was using in the bucket to dry. I only used one bucket load and it dried with white patches in the bucket. It looked like mould.

I didn't over water, didn't wash off too soon none of that load of cak that is always thrown at ya when you have a problem wiv grout, and whats the outcome....i have to buy some Aquamix myself and go back in my own time to sort a problem caused by bad grout.

Oh but don't worry though they do a efflorencence free grout ......whats the bloody point in that surely it should all be efflorecence free.

Oh and the efflorecence free grout aint flexi so guess what ... thats right u have to buy an admix to mix in ...... hmmmpfffft :mad2:

Hey wivers,im so glad you said that! Its been doing my nut in for weeks and ive been on a job for over a week just sorting the mess from a so called premium bathroom company who charged the customer £20,000.I will never touch it again ever! Oh and whats the Aquamix?

Wivs.......If you think BAL have a problem with that grout then tell them so......FAct too much water can cause whitening of the grout..BUT if you have done what you did in your bucket then express your views to BAL and don't give me grief for it..:whatchutalkingabout

Didn't give you the grief for it FAct! Was stating that efflorecence is what is thrown at you buy the manufacturers of products that fail to work properly. I think you've taken my post in the wrong way and i would have thought that you would have known if i was going to give someone grief over something on here it would have been done in a way that they would be unable to mistake it!

Efflorecence was what i was told would be the problem. I was told that it can occur because of a number of reasons and that the fact it had dried patchy in the bucket didn't matter as that can still be efflorecence.

Typical fob off eh?..

They have had probs with the black and limestone for ages wivs.....I won't use those colours....AT ALL......

Mate you know what really got my goat the most ... the fact that the customer wanted me to use Mapei and i talked them outa it beacuse i've had problems with the Jasmine mapei in the past. So what happens they trust their tiler and the grout dry back looking like a 2 month old dog turd!

Yea i oredered it but the company phoned and said they aint got no black and Aqua mix can't give them a date for getting any more. So now my customers are waiting for me to hear from the aqua mix distributors about a delivery date. The other option is raking it out (no way) or oil and white spirit, but i'd rather wait and use the colourant to make sure. 🙁

No problem....would you like some pictures with me posing next to the grout lines in a g-string? 🙂
