Ok , I think it's safe to say the guy has held his hands up and has taken three pages of flack for it.
Give him the specs on how it should be done correctly so he can rectify this job (if the customer wants) and won't make the same mistakes in the future.

Your advice and 'told you so's' greatly appreciated.
So we also cannot protect our trade ..?... you go ahead and make it something it isn't but i am sick to the back teeth of i can do that trades peeps who naff up customers jobs and then come here expecting to be told how to do it right .. he took the advice of a builder and he has tiled for a few yrs he said ... so who is to blame..
We as Pro tilers are competing against these have a go not got a clue muppets .. might sound harsh i know but it is the truth.. i have helped countless peeps on here on how to do jobs but ask first and not go ahead and tile it on the say of a builder...
Was this forum set up only for pro-tilers ?...if your fed up with giving advice, and multi-trade cowboys (opps that me), which are taking your work.should it be that the likes of us should be banned ?..i'm actually getting a lot of work now and considering getting a tiler to do my tiling as i'm getting a bit fed up with it...

no..it seems muti-trades are jack of all trades..master of none..apparently.what, your a multi trade cowboy..?...lol
Did i say i was fed up of giving advice... ?.. i said i was sick of so called trades taking on jobs they know naff all about... so before you have a dig get it right..
Does 61,000 posts look like i hate giving advice.. another multi trader .. in the words of a mate.. I have done em all
Also, Dave, I've been a member for a while, but I hardly ever come on here, but I understand your frustration. It must be difficult being better than everyone else.

I can see where Dave is coming from and the other tiling pros, I can plaster, render, screed, lay bricks, do a bit of plumbing or joinery work, I can also juggle. But I am a time served real deal tiler, that is what I do, I would not dream of competing with other trades on their terms.
The phrase multitrader offends me to be honest, they used to be called jack of all trades, master of none, in this climate why are we subjecting the public to these ongoing disasters we read about them every night. Why can't we all stick to what we know?
Tiling when done right is not only a very skilled trade, but borders on being art. Sorry if this offends some people, but I don;t give a rats behind. I along with other members of this forum who are true craftsmen do resent our trade being diluted by wannabees. End of rant:mad2:
Thank you Dave. Would you suggest removing the chipboard and replacing with 18mm ply prior to installing the tile backer?!
if i didn't multitrade..and i stuck to one trade i would have maybe 3 days work a week..as it stands i work 5-6 days a week..theres tiling and there's tiling...there are many tiling jobs i would not even entertain...but tiling a shower or a bath..or a kitchen with...say a std not to fancy tile..i will do it...which is the majority of my work...that doesn't make me a cowboy...if the customer is happy and you never have to go back for snagging..isn that considered job done ?..everyone has different stds..theres good tilers and bad... as in every trade.....
