Setting out conundrum

Hi all,

My bathroom is pretty completely boarded out with marmox. I'm trying to decide on a setting out pattern for the 600x600 porcelain floor tiles which is complicated by the level access tray requiring an envelope cut. I've drawn up 4 variations, and would be grateful for your opinions....

Many thanks,

Convention would have me centre the tiles to achieve even cuts around the room, but this leaves very awkward cuts on the tray or offset grout lines

Option 1 for me, using the drain as the focal point, so long as it doesn't leave any rubbish cuts elsewhere.

I agree, option 1 is best. What is being fixed along the wall at the bottom of the pics?

Looking at the sketch, I may be tempted to go for option 3. Is the whole floor being tiled or is that wooden plinth/ base going to be under the bath?

I used google sketchup and rendered in podium. The wooden plinth will now be tiled for continuity.

Thank you for all the tips and advice. I've decided to tile this myself simply down to lack of funds and the need to learn a skill for more man-points. It's far from easy and it taking ages.

Agree with everyone with option 1, but let me throw this into the mix, have you considered diamond?
envelope cuts look awesome if you centre the drain to the tile...

now that's a great idea - retains the same tile yet ignores the whole issue of maintaining a consistent grout line by adopting a deliberately different pattern - food for thought methinks...

If its a matter of opinions - I don't like it!
In fact I'd go as far as saying its a mess. Too many lines going off on different angles and not in line across the corners of the drain.
Still it no doubt does its job and sends the water away.

I have to agree. The diamond layout is not aesthetically pleasing to my eye, it just looks too busy.

I dont like it, was gona say earlier but didnt want to get slated for saying incase i went against the grain 😉
