I always use rapid on floors, not because I want to grout the same day, it's just I don't trust nosey customers to stay off it overnight. Does anyone use rapid on walls?

Yes if it needs grout the same day, such as finishing of the tiling of a room in the morning so it can be grout that afternoon. No need to come back the next day 😉

Hi all. We contract to a conservatory installation company that pass us maybe 3 conservatories a month to do floor tiling on. They have just stated they will be self-levelling all floors for now on so they are flat and ready for tiling. We have to provide all tiling tools and materials other than this. They provide floor tiles which at £7 per square metre are fairly cheap and of poor quality to be honest.

We have been charging them £30 plus VAT per square metre which includes the materials. They are trying to get us to do their work for £25 plus VAT per square metre which I'm not too happy about.

What's the going rate these days for this sort of work? Maybe I am out of touch but I'm not really interested at the £25 figure.

Cheers for all feedback, would like to get other opinions before telling them whether or not to shove their price reduction. We are pretty busy with other work and so aren't desperate for this job but is the £25 the going rate??

Cheers,

Keiran.
i was once told put a value on your time and skill .never go back wards every one that wants a cheaper price will ask
again and again untill you are paying them to work .dont work for the cheap as they will devalue every day .dont devalue your self it a one way street so conter there demand with i am so busy i have to up the price by £5 m2
just for you to compete with my other clients .so no hard feeling its time for me to move on .wait they will come back to you.it might take a few f ups on there cheap new tiler straight out of a 3 week course .

I work on my own and if the option for size of conservatory I would use a spf, if a small room then a rapid....

I'd tell them to lump it or leave it. I used to do a ;ot of work for a bathroom fitting company local to me, when the recession started biting up here they said I'd have to drop my price from £28 down to £21 per metre, I reluctantly agreed to it on a 3 month trial,,,,they sent me a job through the post with all the details but they sent me, in error, the customers copy, including the prices.....apparently the tiling labour was £62 per metre,,,,I sacked them off.

Slow set walls..........always use rapid set on floors, if your organised it's no problem, make sure your tools are to hand, dry fix your cuts especially the difficult ones, make sure you got your lines down ready, all you should be doing is mixing and fixing.
Then in a couple of hours you can jump up and down on it, do a jig, a dance, what ever takes your fancy.....but also handy if you need to stand on it to Tile into cuboards, or under units where the dishwasher goes ect, it means you can grout a job the same day, saves you having to go back, which saves you time, fuel, and of course money ,which intern makes your buissnes more profitable ..
And of course it stops the customer walking all over it, realising the tiles are moving, then dancing all over them like someone walking on hot coals, then blaming the cat when you go back to grout!!!!!
Just my take on it....🙂
