What prices

Refer to post 4... Lol! But also, bare in mind that I'm pretty slow. 😉

Sorry, forgot about that 😉 Cheers anyway.

In saying that, youd be good if you finished this job in 2 days. I just cant see it IMO. Theres to many cuts to be done

Is waiting to be shot down now by everyone who has slatted me, they will say they will defo do it in 2 days lol

Not if you cut the arci tight enough, i could slide it in sideways and get a real tight fit. even if it where 1 or 1.5mm, whos going to notice a very small amount of grout like this right at the bottom of the arci.

You have to get adhesive under it, then bed it into the adhesive.. It will drop more than 1mm. Like I said, a small gap. I usually do it this way myself, unless I'm replacing architraves because they're tatty. 😉

send on a copy of your tax clearance cert and I tell you what I would charge for that type of job

Is that what its turned into now lol. Can you not just let yourself give the right advice about this job on how long it could be done in without this carryon

I used to play a bit of poker. When I started I would ask the guys how to play properly and there answer seems quite apt on this thread.

they always replied with "you pay to learn" ie quote for how long you think it will take YOU to do the work, add on materials and there you go.

you will then find out any one of the following.
1 you get the job because it has Been underestimated. Job takes longer and you don't make any money.
2 you don't get the job because you overestimated . No work and you need to be quicker/ cheaper to get work.
3 you get the job and it takes less time than you estimated. Fantastic.

either way don't forget the adage. "YOU PAY TO LEARN"

good luck my friend.

I would say many tilers about would do it this way, apart from the guy on here who i let in on the trades secrets. Im sorry i told him now lol

You see, this is the thing that i will need to learn because im capable of doing the work. Ill just need more experience to learn how to lay them faster with leaving the same job as i do now. The reason for this thread is that i would hate to over charge these people. The job is 99% already mine and if i was a bad person, i could over charge but im not going to do this. I just wanted to work out what woudl be the going rate for this area. I know that i wouldnt be as quick as a proper tiler but i know i would leave as good as job as one.

Thanks for your reply

I know some of the lads down in cork time served lads cannot get work. You say your a plaster you should know what to charge for a days work, and if you want to chat pm your number and we can talk about pricing

Yes i know what i can charge for a days rate, but im not going to charge a days rate for the time im there because it might take me 5 days when it'll take a tiler 3 days. Thats why i asked how many days do you think it would take to complete. If you look back, i didnt ask how much to charge a day rate for tiling.

Day and a half and use rapid set grout if using 5mm spacers

not a chance of it.

your wrong there. 1 day tiling and 2 hours on the hard cuts the next morning and 1.5 hours to grout. so you asked and got the ans, take up something else to do then there is loads you can learn off the web

I knew some prices of jobs of similar sizes and some where getting quoted for 500/600euro in the boom years. Yes i know that was the boom years but no one is working to near 1 fifth of the boom time money in this climate, not a chance of it!

You asked about time not money, you have me lost now

Yes i did but im now going by boom time prices and in the boom time, tilers where on 120-150 euro a day. Going by 500 divide by 120-150 means that it would take 3 ish days or there about. No chance a tiler would do that area in 1 and half days. Is so, that means theyd be on over 250 a day. No chance!

Mods, i know theres no price talk but to be fair, we are talking about boom time prices and that was a long time ago IMO. I hope this is ok.

I couldnt see it being any more than 2 days works tiled and grouted but I do know tilers that would do a late one and get it all done in a day if they were given it on a price all depends on the prep how many doors are coming off the hall ,if the customers is in and needs to use the passage way all this plays a factor in how long its going to take

EDIT......

HAve a wee job on and wondering how to price it. Seeing as im not a fully qualified tiler, i wouldnt rip the arm with it because theres still alot to learn IMO. If pricing talk is not aloud on here, wondering how long would it take you to tile this area. Its a sq large hallway and its 4.5mx3.8m and a small hallway branching of this at 4mx1.75m. The tiles used will be 450mmx450mm and ceramic with 5mm spacers and grouted with grey grout.

Price it on per sqr mtr , extra for prep. 2 days should see it tiled and into a 3rd possibly depending on substrate prep.

You have nothing to worry about Craig, I worked all over the deep south of the USA, believe me triple K are alive and well, as long as you keep playing your banjo and being a "good old boy" whistle "Dixie" anytime and believe "the south will rise again" you will be fine.

You might try changing your name to something like Craig, mad dog, bear killing, all round bad *** dude.

I will send you a pointy hat, and a wooden cross, but you must read the HSE guide lines for pointy hats ( they could take someones eye out) and the wooden cross must be supervised by a competent person if you intend to burn it, fire brigade, or similar qualified person.

A grand wizard of KKK may be able to help. with the HSE God forbid anyone has been injured in the past with these harmless pranks.

If pricing it on the sq mtr then it should work out about 3 and half days going by the local cash in hand rates. Ill have to look at it again when the lino gets lifted to see how much prep work needs done. Thanks for you reply.

Trust me some very protective tilers on here about there trade,a bit like me with plasterers,I hate the fact people can go on a crap coarse for a few weeks and skim a plasterboard then go out into the world put 'plasterer' on the side of the van and go and balls someone's house up,then someone like me has to go round and sort it out,get right on my boobies !
But,some good lads on here, some bloody good tilers who we can learn a lot from, which I have learnt a lot from.
Even though I served my time 'plastering/tiling, I mainly plastered/corniced for my apprenticeship, but I liked tiling and picked a lot up and done some good jobs in nearly 30 years, mind done some horrible council referbs which would make some of these on here toes curl !
Going back to your question, speed comes with experience ,my advice, take your time and make a good job,I do mainly domestic jobs, but I've just done this floor in a ex pub being made into a shop(funnily enough one of my old locals from the 80s)
80m2 in 300x300s started tiling Saturday dinner time finished grouting Tuesday tea time ,I was on my own sat,Sunday,Monday and my lad grouted on Tuesday while I was at a funeral
etusase4.jpg

vyvaja4u.jpg

Oh and I had to tile and grout about 20m2 on the sat and put 4 big freezes on to get out the way

Ps if you look on the photo with the support girder on,I measured it so when I got to it no cutting was required ,just 4 full tiles around, how's that for measuring!
