We recently finished a bathroom renovation where the two builders who did the bathroom also did all the tiling. When looking over the work at the end of the job it seemed generally ok, but we found some things we weren't happy with like an extractor fan that wasn't flush to the wall by almost 1cm on one corner that they insisted was fine.

However, looking over the bathroom in more detail now that they've left we've been finding a lot of bits of the tiling job that seem to be poorly done, such as tiles sitting way above the trim, cracks in the grout all around the window and the new built-in toilet they made, tiles to the side of the bath sitting in front of the bath edge on one edge and behind it on the other end, many uneven tiles, and generally messy grouting in a lot of places.

I'm not sure if we're being too fussy about the final result though or if they should have done a better job. Would be great to get some advice/opinions to see whether it's worth bringing it up with them.

They are builders not tilers. Their good enough is a long way from a professional level. You get what you pay for in most cases. If they don’t see issues they won’t or can’t put them right. Some tidying of the grout will improve it but to replace the trims is awkward but not impossible. Tiles can be changed and lippage reduced.
All this depends on what quality of work you thought you were getting. This is finishing work and is needs time, consideration and skill to get right.
Talk to your builders and ask them to get proper tiler in to improve matters. And don’t let them do any more tiling.

No, the tiling is a Flunking level. There is an area that looks painted instead of tiled. The tile is cut very thin and was not measured to prevent this. This will need to be pulled off and redone the mitered edges have gaps that are too large. Speak with them and get your money back to make the repairs with a tiling worker.

Look, you don’t need anyone here to tell you what you already know. The issue is of communication and expectations. If you knew the job you was going to look like this you’d be happy and so would they.
Clearly they can’t tile to a professional level and their finishing is appalling but it should have been spoken about before and during the works. It’s always too late after the event. It can all be sorted but who pays is the problem.
You should both have a contract stating exactly what they were going to do, what warranty’s they were giving you regarding workmanship and final payment only when you’ve looked around the work and signed it off. Consider it a lesson learned.

That work is poor already looks 10 years old in my opinion it needs ripping out and be done again by a professional tiler not a builder. There isn’t anything right about any of his work no care taken whatsoever in the finish as that’s what tiling is about.
