HBB and collated screws

Does anyone use a collated screw gun for putting down HBB?

Got 25 boards to put down soon for 15mm marble. not looking forward to 900 screws !!!

Im actually struggling to find any zinc coated/galvanised 25mm screws to go in one anyway!!! I dont really trust the idea of tacks even though the HBB pdf says so.

I'm just doing a kitchen floor and laid 10x 1500x900 boards yesterday all screwed in with my cordless drill driver

I think I may opt for an impact body, makita, I think they may go in a bit better.

I piloted the last small floor I did to see if it made a difference in time...I dont think it did.

Wasting your time piloting Cam IMO, got about 10m of tiles down today, all the cuts and curves out of the way. It's my wrists and arms that were giving me grief and still are :cuss:

I use a makita impact driver,no messing about with pilot holes,just make sure to use an impact compatible bit .Good luck mate :smilewinkgrin:

Cam, you not got an impact driver?
I never use a drill driver, just use it for coring holes, too big & heavy compared to a nice wee impact driver.

I use turbo golds from ScrewFix & they bite right into HBB with the impact..

I use turbo golds too 😉 My makita doesnt seem as heavy as my old ryobis so maybe its time to see what the impacts like !

If you have already got an collated gun it is definitely the way to go. Not all of the screws will go in flush first time every time, so you will still need a driver of some sort. Last batch I got were 25mm from screwfix went into chipboard fine.

Impact all the way. I use this: Erbauer CDI108L6 10.8V 1.3Ah Li-Ion Cordless Impact Driver | Screwfix.com It was recommended to me and its ace, proper bargain and flys through HBB

You will never go back to a drill/driver after using an impact.

The power in them is unbelievable

Make sure you get a decent bit holder, I use wera, don't use a cheap one as it will rip it apart..

HBB screwed into chipboard as opposed to floorboards.

I have my 5 piece Makita kit, if you already have Makita go for that.
I think I've had my kit about 5yrs now, roughly, & my impact drivers never missed a beat.

I'd recommend the 2 battery one at £90. Bargain compared to some of the others. I was looking around comparing makitas/dewault etc, then I had a go on this when a sparky was using one & I was sold. Its small as well. I like small tools me!

The new brushless ones are meant to be crackers.
I'm not sure what model mines is, I will need to check but my tools are lying on a private job in Ayr.
Will check tomorrow for you..

My auto feed makita driver is a few years old now, and unless they have changed the collated screws......struggled to counter sink every screw. Ok, mine was a 12v version.

I changed to a makita impact driver......and (I don't know how) I ended up with 3. :mad2:
I would say, as has been mentioned, get a bloody good driver bit holder, preferably magnetic......or Your'll stab ya finger tips to death.

Autofed is another tool sitting in my garage. Bloody brilliant for plasterboard screws.
