Hopefully a quick one for ya.

When I grouted recently I was obviously not careful enough and got some grout in the internal corners in a few areas, where I had intended to silicone. Do you think I should remove all the grout before I silicone or will I get away with it do you reckon? I did try to scrape some out last night using a stanley knife but chipped a bit of the cut edge of the tile so I don't want to faff about with this unless it's really necessary.

Thanks @Alan.P. You're right, I really don't fancy replacing any tiles.

Although I've sent the wife out to get me a tile rake from Screwfix so maybe I'll try that to open the gap out a bit. If there's any more chips though I'll give up on it. I should have dealt with it whilst it was still soft of course but I always seemed to be chasing my tail to get it done before the grout went too hard.

I personally fill mine then silicone , i aint had one crack yet, my bathroom is grouted in each corner , no silicone and also no cracks in the couple of years its been in(no shower in it, just a free standing bath)
Id like to know how many tilers don't fill em, id bet most on here do, but won't admit it ;)

Nope, no way, as per OP I often get a small amount of grout in a joint, this gets cleaned out as best as possible.

Ok, well I do, and I've never seen it not done in 30 years apart from a few who say they do it on here.
It's no problem, if the wall moves so much as it cracks, you have more problems behind the tiling than the tiling , never seen it crack yet.
But each tradesman does it differently ,each to there own ;)

I've seen others do it and invariably I've seen it all crack, I tell site agents who insist on it coz 'it helps the mastic man' that it's bad practice, most listen.

We could go on forever alan

Oh dear. Sorry to have started an argument guys.

Anyway, I decided to spend half an hour trying to scrape it out last night with the thought that if it was too difficult I'd just give up and leave it. But it went pretty well so I spent an hour in the end and got most of it out and am pretty happy with it now.

As you say it probably wouldn't have made any difference, especially as I was going to go over it with silicone regardless, but it's done now so I'm satisfied.

I hate to add more fuel to the fire too... but in my other bathroom it's grouted into the corners and has cracked (I didn't tile this one). See pic.

Righty, in all honesty it comes down to how good your cuts are going into the corners.
If your cuts are tight, ie less than 2mm then silicone only will be fine.

If they are 4mm + them your cuts are bad and you may need glasses, however all is not lost as yes you can grout the corners first, leave to dry then over silicone.

Not rocket science and not worth worrying about as long as it's one or the other.

There seems to be some kind of misconception running through this thread!

Putting silicone over grout is just wrong anyway!

I disagree there, I have recently just completed 3 rooms where the customer supplied the grout and it was all from Porcelenasa, there was no chance of getting a silicone to match to do the internal corners.

Therefore the only solution was to grout them, let them dry and over silicone with clear silicone.

How else could you do it other than just clear silicone in the corners and no grout - which would have looked great yeah.

Well I'm not getting into a huge debate about this, but fact of the matter is silicone in corners whether it be wall to wall transition, or wall to floor transitions, is used as an expansion joint!
if u fill these transitions with grout, u have no expansion joint,
U can disagree all u want my friend, but it is what it is!

Its an expansion joint. If you fill it how can there be room for movement, something will give.

Have a look here you can match to most tiles or grout colours from here

U do what u want to!!
You're a grown up!
I'm saying u SHOULDN'T and I've given my reasons, why else would u silicone dry corners?
It's not for the fun of siliconing is it!
