Hello

I've been regrouting my shower with Mapei utracolour plus white.I have read that it can be tricky stuff to work with so was careful to try and follow the instructions.

The mix seemed too powdery and dry with the recommended amount of water added,so I put a little bit more in just to make it a bit more workable.Even then it didn't fill the gaps easily.

I dressed up the grout, cleaned down the tiles and left to dry. However over large parts of the walls the grout is dove grey in colour.I thought ok it may need to dry out a little longer but it's been 5 day's now.It looks worse than the grout I raked out!

Do you chaps have any idea's what may have happened and more important, any solutions, save raking it all out again.

Thanks

Hello whiskeybravo,as whitebeam what colour adhesive?? this can affect the grout if protruding etc.if you have no experience of grouting the mapei is not the easiest to start with,i personally love the stuff and have no problems whatsoever with it.

mapei grouts in general are great however i am not a fan of the white at all,,it is grey until it dries and even then it still isnt a brilliant white colour regardless of what colour adhesive is used,,you may be best removing again and trying a diff brand

did you leave it to slake whiskeybravo? it's probably the best grout around (imo) but the trade-off is, that you have to do exactly what it says on the mixing instructions:thumbsup:

if thats the case doug surely it would be the same for bal,pci etc to name a few all must be correctly mixed to acheive correct coulour? i have used all 3 companys white grouts and mapeis comes out as whiskeybravo says its dull its not a good white colour. i first questoned it the 1st time i used it as it was grey when mixed but did dry lighter once cured,,however used with a gloss white tile it ruined the finished article im afraid i dont think mapei have got this quite right however all the other grouts i have used of theres are great.

we don't know the scenario yet tho' jamie, till WB gets back to us. I agree, some white grouts are whiter than others. Bal brilliant white probably the whitest:thumbsup:

aye sure i agree some are brilliant white, its the only product iv used of mapei that i dont use any more as in my opinion its off white,,might sprinkle some daz in n liven it up lol:drool5:

Thanks for the replies.

Whitebeam, sorry I couldn't tell you the adhesive colour as the tiles are quite thick.I did use a fein to remove the old grout and pretty much got it all out

Doug,'slake', I had to look that up.Is that the term used to dress up the grout with a sponge after refilling in between the tiles. If so yes I did and used clean water with 2 buckets for cleaning off the grout.

The tiles are a glossy white and as said they do show up the grout even more.

If all else fails you could recolour it using Aqua Mix Grout Colourant they sell four different whites.

Thanks again for your replies.

I think the easiest course is to apply the Aqua mix colourant in pure white.
