battens with no surface to nail to

I'll be tiling onto dat/dab plasterboard next week and will have a border right around the room. If its a stud wall or masonry, I nail the batten where border sits then tile off it and fill border later. Now I won't have any thing to nail to apart from the plasterboard so does anyone have any tips on what I can do so battens stay in place.

I don't know if I'm reading this properly? You are saying that you put a batten half way up a wall then tile off it?surely not

Instead of nailing use drywall screws through the batton and into the board, never had a batton move..

Do you mean you want to leave a gap where the boarder gose and tile above?

If so then same as dash....cut some off cuts same width as the boarder and use them as supports..

Glue gun.
I carry a pack of beads, spirit levels, & glue them to the wall with a glue gun.
Once set it won't budge.

I like that idea!, how long does it take for the glue to grab? And what lengths of latte are we talking?

am i missing some think why not just put the boarder in place as you go or do you need to build it out to be flush with the tiles if so srcibe some backer board to the size of the boarder plus the groat joints stick in place so you dont need to build out

Takes the glue about 10 seconds to go off.
Latte? I'm not much of a coffee drinker.
I have 5 beads in the pack, 1800 1200 1000 800 600.
Seen me glueing my stabilas to the wall when needed.

These are glued to the wall, 2 x 1800s & a 900.
There's a couple of screws in it but they were just into the plasterboard as I couldn't get a fixing.

run a datum line around the room 2 course high then tile the 2 course around the room, then go up from there

whoops didn't read properly... id do exactly what ray t t would do. may seem long winded but once you have fixed the boarder to the hardy it works a treat

I use off cuts of field tiles, cut to same depth as borders, dot them on with tubbed addy, tile above and remove later. This way you can make sure that field tiles above and below border are nice and flat with each other.
