Quarry tiled floor

Tilers Forums Official Sponsors

Hi guys.

I have job coming up which is a 40m 2 Quarry floor throughout a house . Been laid for a long long time.

As expected it is caked In engrained dirt from years of build up.
I am going to clean once or twice with Lithofin Fz intensive
And seal when properly dry with Lithofin KF stainstop.

Would you do this differently ?

Hi There

i would suggest looking at a sealing product that will enhance the colour slightly and give a slight topical finish at the same time this way it will be easier for the client to keep clean

Hope this helps in some way

Mike

Do you know of a professional sealer for old quarry tiles which meets your description of colour enhancing ?

lee from protilers done a job a fair few months back on restoring some quarry and it was huge difference maybe someone can pull it up for you to see buddy 😉

quarrys don't need sealing

Hi

this product will work fine, you will need to apply a minimum of 3 coats and it will enhance the colours and seal the tiles.

Its water based and each coat will dry within 10 minuets

Natural Stone Sealer | Stone Sealant Products | Sealer For Stone | From Nu-Life Stone Care
Hope this helps

Conflicting answers..

These Quarry's don't have a glazed surface, so the dirt, grime, liquid etc just sinks and embeds itself.
Quarry's being fired earth would be porous enough to take a impregnator/Enhancing sealer.

If they had the glazed or Pre-sealed surface, then I understand they might not need sealing, or in fact be ineffective.

Ha ha I havent seen him on here for a while

In the old days all we used on quarries was linseed oil, done thousand's of metres, with wide sand and cement joints.

quarry's are salt glazed (non porous ) so all your doing it
putting polish on the surface

fixed loads of heatherbrowns and dennis ruabon red quarries, never sealed them and they always look lovely when wet

I am sealing for job longevity and convenience, these particular ones haven't been cleaned properly for years. So I am going to clean thoroughly and seal for a longer lasting finish, then polish to give that 'sheen'

I think because they don't clean them properly I best seal them to preserve the work I am providing.. What ever dirt on top is then down to them 🙂
