who is the oldest tiler actively working that you know?
if your career came to an end tomorrow what would you do to support your family ?
how long do you intend working ?
which of your family members Erne the most ?
and what do they do ?
if you find the questions to personal then don't answer simples !!

I know an Irish bloke here in his 70's now still on the tools, he's just had 2nd hip replaced not seen him for a while but I've heard he's up and about and working.

A guy I know who himself has been tiling 30 years, his father who is now to ill to do any work but was still doing bit at 75....

Perhaps they are like me just fade away, but still doing jobs for family. Recently did kitchen splashback for Number 1 daughter and helped/guided/advised Number 3 daughter and her fiancee on bathroom floor & walls.

Dave Howe is 174 and still tiling, or at least has the knowledge of 174 year old tiler.

I knew a builder when I was a apprentice that was still doing all the graft at 79. Everything from lugging bricks up ladders to doing the work himself along with his partner of 50 years who was 75 great builders to. But turned up one day and there was the ambulance trying to revive the 79 year old couple of days later the second guy came back finished the job told the client you are my last customer and retired.

Sad to hear a bloke pass away on a job and not at home with family.

Apparently blokes who retire early are the most likely to pass away bored though. So swings and roundabouts.

I wonder how the 75 year old is getting on now though, you heard from him lately Tony?

Not tiling related, but I have been digging into local colliery history just lately and frequently finding coal miners in the Staffordshire area working well into their 60's and 70's. An inspiration to me.

Still see him around the local village usually having a pint and give him a game of snooker now and again in our local league

I hope we go to heaven, but not for a good while yet.:thumbsup: Ed paid me a visit today, and said I had another 10 yrs in me, I will be happy if I get through the next 10 weeks:lol:

i know a couple of tilers in there late fifties, one of them has been tiling all his working life and never worn a knee pad and never had any knee problems, makes me cringe whatching him crawl round the floor..

ive been giving quite a lot of thought as to what i would do if my tiling career came to a sudden end, my knees seem to be getting worse each year, plus works been so up and down this year, but when youv'e done the same job all your working life having to pack it in and do something eles sends a shiver down my spine, couldn't hack working in a factory, or office ,or a tile shop, may be repping but im to honest, if a product was crap i just couldn't sell it...lol, think i will proberly end up going as long as i can, maybe just slowing down as the kids get older and stop bleeding me dry..

[h=2]where do old tilers go to ?[/h]

well on a weds TJ collects his pension and then supps coffee..

On a friday..Phil hobson finishes at 12 noon... he then has to lie down for the weekend to recover... not sure where he goes after that..

but ye OLD tilers do go somewhere.

Some tiling companies I have worked for have had their tilers retire at 65 after working for them for 50 years but they still come back and carry on working ,there was one team who had a 70plus year old working with his 2 sons who were in their late 30s I guess if you are fit enough age is just a number ,I always hoped i could make some money and retire early but that doesnt look possible so I wiullprobably end up working till my body doesnt allow me to any more ,If I couldnt tile any more I would buy a decent mini bus and use it to do private hire mini cabbing
