poll : should we use more cement tile backer board

as tradsmen do you think we should be using and encourage the use of cement backer boards more than we do yes/no

Well i encourage it all the time (sadly falls on deaf ears) so i say i cant encourage it anymore than i do.

Why what ? Why does it fall on deaf ears ? because people believe what Texas Tom tells them in the DIY sheds or what uncle Bob tells them even though he is only an ice cream man.
Or why i cant push it more than i do? because i tell everyone who is having such work done that backer boards are the way to go.

So where do i put my vote?

Trouble is, a lot of people don't like paying for wot they can't see.

Backer boards, tanking etc etc.

Only the customer who is prepared to listen :incazzato: which a lot are more bothered about the £££

I totally insist they go down the backer board route everytime if you insist thats the way they will listen

I give advise on the right materials, there choice if they choose not to but try to explain the consequences

I just think it is a case of using the correct product for the job in hand and if a backer board is that product then yes..i use them..

people will harp on about the carbon footprint with the production of cement based products, but the energy used in the production is offset in the conservation of other forms of energy, (rant over lol), it's a yes from me

if there is a need for it then yes the customer needs to be advised to take the right path if not how can i gaurantee my work knowing its done in a way im not happy with

it is hard convincing some that you are not after all their money and as said before some dont like paying for the hidden stuff being more focused on the fancy frilly stuff.

as tradesman we should always recomend the right product for the job.
if you are working on a substrate that you know is wrong then you should not call yourself a tradesman,if its wrong dont do it, teach the right way
