I got asked tonight to do an insurance quote. Washing machine in a kitchen has been leaking since January (when it was fitted, so assuming it's been leaking since then). It's only become apparent as some floor tiles have cracked due to substrate (T and G floorboarding overlaid with 9mm ply) soaking up water and expanding. The kitchen had an extension built on to it with a concrete substrate and was tiled throughout. Now comes the tricky bit, electric UFH laid throughout the whole area (15m2) and tiles on brick bond. By tapping the tiles I'm thinking that the water damage has probably affected possibly 3m2 of tiling.
Do I quote for taking the whole lot up, rectifying substrate, installing new UFH throughout, supplying new tiles and addy etc, or just for rectifying the water damaged area (although I'm sure getting matching tiles, repairing UFH etc will be a nightmare!)

All of it Doug, if you want me to send you a similar quotation that was passed by the claim adjuster just let me know.

I used to do an inspection report for the insurers detailing the extant of damage and a quote for rectifying the damage

hey doug ,mates place renew the lot , insurance will pay and prob this time your get payed the right rate for your work , everyones a winner

what about the price of tiles, do I just put a mid/higher quality tile price in the quote? If I remeber correctly they cost £680 five years ago

if its to be like for like replacement i would price the current value of those tiles in todays market doug and state it on your quote i did one recently including tanking to be installed and surprisingly they were fine with it

doug i did an insurance job for a friend a while ago,,it was creamics with a glass border that was ripped out and i gave them my discount so ended up getting a travertine bathroom for the same price as a ceramic installation would have cost:thumbsup: your friwend could score:drool5:

i got similar call tonight doug,i'm goint to price tomorrow night.
I have to quote for lifting chinese slate and the prepping floor and retile in something else.
Labour only here maybe.

If they can remember the tile price they paid Doug then its usually quid pro quo, Prices rise and they should look for a similar quality replacement.

it's me that can remember the price Dom, it was put on my account at my supplier, I have a good memory for things like that:smilewinkgrin:

Doug, there is a secret lesson that you should know when dealing with insurance firms, My sister works for one and she filled me in with the details many years ago.
Ring me tomorrow and I will tell all.:thumbsup:

I would actually tell everyone now, but I am knackered so going to bed.

Its got to be the whole lot, theres no theres way IMO for it to look right. Do you know who his insurance company is? I just had a big run in with Direct Lines assessors who told me who much the job was worth after i priced it!

There is an easy way around that.

I will post in elite tomorrow and explain.

I told them to get stuffed Dom, the jumped up little squirt behind his desk pushing paper got a right rocket off me.

Apparently Direct line only ask for one quote! My customer submitted 2 that were £30 between them, showing that thats what the job was worth. They sent the customer the cheque the next day.
