Hi,

Assistance please.......... I have just about finished tiling my bathroom but i am having problems getting the tiles to stick to the underside of the bathroom window.I have supported them with batons for 24 hrs but the still fell off when i took the support away. The adhesive is a local tile stores own brand for bathrooms etc......

which tiles are they and please be more specific about the adhesive, was the window head painted ? spf rapid set is normally good for window heads as it dries very quick and enables you to remove the supports

Ready mixed or tubbed adhesives are not generally suitable for porcelain tiles, this may be your trouble....Gaz

The tiles are 25cmx40cmx9mm ceramic tiles. The adehisive is a non slip tile tub adhesive. It is not a branded name adhesive but carries the name of the local tile shop. The window head did have emulsion on but i removed it after the tiles fell off the first time. I have not been using the bathroom to cut down on moisture.

You will probably find your problem is the size of the tiles for tubbed adhesive. Generally with tiles of that size it is necessary to use a cement based adhesive as tubbed stuff sets by evaporation. With such big tiles, the adhesive will take much, much longer to dry (if at all) whereas if you used cement based adhesive, it sets by chemical reaction. I think this is your problem.

There are a few good brands, Mapei, Bal, Ardex and a few others. it depends what is available to you in your area. I would also use a rapid setting version in your situation as you will not get any slip after about 30 mins.
