1960's Marley Tiles

Hi everyone,
I wonder where I can find some 1960's Marley Tiles. I am repairing a floor in a flat that has these original hard , brittle, compound/plastic tiles and I'd like to find some original replacements or something close to it.. I've tried B&Q and Wickes with no luck and there's nothing on the websites that looks or sounds like what I need. The colour is irrelevant as the floor is getting painted. It's the hardness and 'bakerlite' type feel to it I want.
Any ideas anyone?

I also have a problem getting the old adhesive off the floor. It is too tacky to scrape off and using white spirit and surgical spirit turns the floor into something like an oil puddle! Is there a product that will help, or is it down to good old elbow grease?

Thanks for that Tel. Sounds like an expensive hire job. I should have said that the floor area is only 10 Sq Metres.

Those old tiles will most likely contain asbestos..so go carefully..

the pads are a couple of quid you can get em in your machinery marts shops a rotary machine must be peanuts to hire over there/

That's what i was thinking.. Won't they be hard (read impossible) to replace if they contain Asbestos? And where do we stand on removing them? Most Asbestos has to be removed by a specialist, but i've no idea what the rule is with these tiles!?!?!

Contact your local council and they will give you guidance. From past experience they will ask you to send a sample off to be analysied and on the out come of that will decide the best course of action.
If you uplift them and skip them or take to the local tip you will leave yourself wide open to prosecution and a hefty fine if you get found out.

How do I dispose of asbestos?

To dispose of small quantities of dusty or loose asbestos waste, dampen it to stop dust escaping and seal it in a strong plastic bag marked Asbestos.

Oven gloves, simmering pads and similar small items should also be sealed in a suitable plastic bag as soon as they start to show signs of wear.

Large asbestos cement sheets should not be broken up but should be wrapped in polythene sheeting and marked Asbestos.

Do not under any circumstances put waste asbestos in your dustbin or refuse chute.

Asbestos cement products can be taken to the City Recycling Centres by householders and be disposed of in special skips. Care must be taken to prevent contamination of the vehicle. To ensure that facilities are available contact your local recycling centre:

a mate of mine use to fit them when we were kids ,i can remember him telling me about a hotplate he used to heat the tiles up in so maybe if you applie heat to the surface (carefully) and scrape you might have some luck

I've been on to Tarket (formerly Marley) and the 9 inch sqare thermoplastic tiles I'm looking for haven't been manufactured since 2005.
Not so long ago, but the architectural salvage people in the South and my local tile suppliers don't know where to get any.

Any ideas as to who may have some?

MY HOUSE WAS BUILD IN 1989. MARLEY TILES WERE USED, NAMELY DOUBLE ROMAN.
I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHERE THESE TILES WERE MADE WITH CLAY AND IF I CAN PAINT THEM.
