Tiling Rates Per Square Meter / Per Day – How much do tilers charge?

how-much-do-tilers-charge-per-day-square-meter.jpg

I know this is a hard one to answer. But just as an approximate guide for those searching for how much a tiler costs, and landing on websites such as my builder who seem to be selling tilers for pennies, how much you been charging either day rate or per meter generally?
Perhaps if you could split your work between your fancy stuff, and your bread-winning stuff over the past year or so, then do that so we can see the difference.

And then perhaps price per floors and per walls? If different at all.
Just wanted to get the facts straight for those searching, as £150 per day or £20 per meter isn’t what I’d expect to pay anymore. It’s not the 90’s lol

How Much Do Tilers Charge?
Is it per square meter or per job or per day rate?

Tiling Rates Per Square Meter - How much does tiling cost?

It appears to be a bit of a post code lottery perhaps. So we thought we'd get a bit of a thread going to see what others charge and why.

How much do Tilers Charge?

Thank you. Already helping out there because both of those are above what is being told to customers on other websites. So keep them coming and I'll try and average it out near the end and update the first post to reflect that.

I'm £35/40 for general stuff obviously more for stone/natural but usually price a job as I see it. day work at £200 plus materials

I usually charge between £25 - £35 per m2 for labour only but it depends on the material and state of the floor or wall. If the tile is small and the pattern is complicated it changes again. We've charged as much as £55per m2 for 100x100 tiles. If you're working away the price needs to include your accommodation and money for food etc but that can vary depending on where you are (London is far more expensive) day rate is obviously less at home and depends on how many hours you do. I work on a day rate of £250 when I'm away and £200 at home but again it always varies. Hope that helps

Herefordshire area, usual ceramics and porcelains 28£m2(thicker than 10mm 30£m2),stones 35£m2,(thicker than 15mm - 40m2),mosaics 35-40£m2 ,if area is tricky (a lot of cuts I go for day rate -200£ , prep ,levelling etc also at day rate. Usually customer gets fixed cost for labour on quote and estimate for materials( if required)

It also has a lot to do with how you trade, sole trader domestic, Contacting sole or group,so many variables. I truly believe this industry is in grave danger of falling apart. The demands of the tiles, substrate, size, quality of prep, the list is endless. I have been asked to quote for 9 flats, 18 bathrooms, Balbone 2 easy, include all materials, trims the whole gig. total m2 is 150m2 Oh by the way no drawings showing elevations. The buyer ( who has not a clue ) informs me that its just tiling mate. As I say the industry has changed some what. Anyhoo back to the point, rates my end are from £38 to infinity and beyond. (see what I did there?) Job by job basis. My father who was a tiler many moons ago used to cost the whole material package, I mean all of it and double it, then add 10%. Its a system, It would work well with porcelanosa materials.

Hi as a rule I tend to charge per M2 for larger jobs as there are less cuts so £25 to 30 depending on the tile type..small fiddly bathrooms ect or areas with lots of tools cuts and trim then it's a day rate around £175..any wall or floor prep work tile removal is charged £150 per day materials all on top of this. hope this helps

Mainly do everything on mtr rate £30 mtr plus materials unless its a days work like a 2/3mtr kitchen which would then be done on a day rate. min 180 plus materials)

Ironically I've had a couple of issues today. I've had steady work from a company in York for the last 6 years. Solid, decent work. I charged them £30/m and £150/day for prep work etc. They also provide materials. On the cheaper side for York but it was steady work and paid every Monday. Had a fall out couple of weeks back so I'm back pricing jobs. I lost 3 bathrooms this morning due to somebody being cheaper. And the job I've been doing the last couple of weeks (for a plumber/friend I know) he thought I was expensive. I charged him £25/m and £125/day. It was an 80m floor (1200 x 600) plus a couple of days prep. Hand sanded the floor, 2 coats of Primer, layed durabase. He expected £25/m for everything!!
He'll be getting to see this thread tomorrow

Not in the trade but I would expect to be paying more for working with porcelain or awkward tile shapes/designs. This is just from personal experience of working with them compared to standard ceramics.

If it were me I would be working on day rate rather than by the metre taking the above into consideration.

Hope it's alright to ask this. I'm not actually a tiler yet but hoping to get into the trade soon. Can someone explain to me why the differences in prices, I.e 30 per m2 for ceramic but 40 per m2 for natural stone or marble etc? And say 30 m2 for 10mm thick (example thickness) but 35 m2 over 10mm thick? Do these m2 prices include adhesive and grout etc?

This has all got to be based regionally...however I don't think for one minute someones getting away with charging 40-£50pm all day every day, that's going on £200k a year...lets be realistic eh :tearsofjoy:

Based on 10-20m a day, which is being realistic, we must have some millionaires on here then..

As everyone has mentioned above, costs can vary dramatically but a quick price for walls and floors would be £35 per sq meter, £200 day rate which would be for kitchens and geometric patterns. £55 per sq meter for most stone work. All of those costs would be for tiling labour. Preperation would be an additional charge, rough estimate would be just under double.

Usually price the job as a whole and separate out materials ( adhesives/ backer board/ slc/ decoupling / trims / grouts/ silicones/ diamond bits etc and tiles if I’m supplying) with a separate quote for labour at 200 a day unless I’m staying away then it’s + expenses.
If it’s fix only then per m2 depending on type of tile and layout.. 30-40 for ceramics.. 40-50 for larger formats extra for mosaics/ natural stone/ herringbone/ Victorian etc

Jobs with natural stone products simply require more time to lay and finish, all the cuts have to be done on wet cutter , they also need cleaning and sealing . In general thicker material involves more fitting time due to slower cutting process.

£45 sq mtr walls £35 floors if porcelain or ceramic and a reasonable size tile. Anything else would be on a day rate of £175/200 depending on travel time parking etc. Hope it helps

Thanks for the reply Andreas. And do per m2 prices include adhesive and grout etc or is that on top? One other thing, prep work, removing old tiles, laying self levelling compound etc if on a floor, I notice people tend to charge day rate for this. Let's just say its one day in prep work for example, am I right in thinking it would be charge at let's just say 150 for that day, then charge the rest of the job at the m2 rate as normal? For instance, 150 prep, 10m2 at 30 per m2, 300 + 150 so 450 all in?
