i cant even begin to think why the problem is apparent when heating turned on.
do you have any more info.

No Jonnyc, just read it tonight in a local paper online. Its a puzzle but I was thinking the grout was being affected by the warm water ? not really sure but curiosity has the better of me. i will update if anymore info comes available.

most of these hydraulic floors are metal Jonny if the gap around the edge is too tight when heated it could possibly foul the edge as the metal expands, I tiled a house which had one of these pool floors and we were back a few times repairing the steps which moved as the pool floor raised up and down

found a couple of pictures to show how tight the gaps can be, I didnt tile the pool floor the pool contractor did but the client asked us back a few times to do some repairs on it

Well that will be interesting !, it will not have a floor the same as the one in Gary s pics, as the floor will change the dimensions of the pool depth for classes /maybe racing lenth, but could well be the same problem ,if its only happening when heated ,you can almost bank on expansion ,more info needed !,also if the council are trying to hide it then it must be an embarrassment ( love it ) good old council lol ........

think im out my depth !!!
expansion is your specialist subject isnt it DPM !!
will be interested to hear how this progresses.
how do you know its a hydraulic floor gary ?

heard on the grapevine it is expansion problems, its an existing pool tank, a new sand&cement screed has been laid. The tilers have followed the original expansion joints but unfortunately the screeders have not. Should have been noticed but unfortunately it wasn,t.

OH so are you saying the expansion joints are only as deep as the tiled expansion joint ? and not going through the screed as well :lol::lol::lol: then they should have got some decent swimming pool tilers like US :hurray::reindeer::hurray:

An update
The new 25-metre pool, which should have opened on August 8, has been hit by a technical problem causing the tiling to crack when the pool is heated.
Councillor Christine Mitchell, leader for sport and culture, confirmed that although specialists have been brought in by the contractor, GF Tomlinson Ltd, no one is able to say when the problem might be fixed.
She said: “We’re incredibly disappointed with the delay to the swimming pool but I can assure residents that everything is being done to get the pool open and ready for use as quickly as possible. I’d like to apologise for the inconvenience this is causing.”
More details have emerged about what has gone wrong at the Stafford Road pool, the final piece in a £6 million refurbishment jigsaw to transform leisure facilities.
The problem came to light only at the 11th hour when workmen heated the filled pool. The expansion caused by the rise in temperature put stress on the joints, resulting in cracks.
Finding an answer is proving a slow process because of the time it takes to drain, re-fill and heat the pool to try out solutions. It had been hoped to fix the problem by September but a question mark now hangs over that estimate.
Chase Swimming Club has been left looking for an alternative venue for Wednesday evening sessions. Head coach Paul Grainger said: “We were expecting to move back into Cannock but with this further delay we’ve got to search for somewhere else.” But he said the 150-strong club were expecting the new pool to be “well worth waiting for”.

i would still like to know a bit more ! as i guessed , it was expansion due to the water heating the sub-straights , its builders not knowing the small tech details ,and only after the money, i have no sympathy for the builders or management ,and hope it costs them thousands !! they could pay me to put it right tut tut it would cost though!!! lol

Just thought i would go back to this one,! and see if there had been anymore results, thanks Neil for this up-date, its good reading back through old threads as you realise how peeps dont know much then burt now they have become leading authorities on thing's lol is there anymore info on this !! ?
