Know what you mean.Open site work this time of the year sucks.Luckily for me im going to be in domestics for a few weeks.

It's first time I've done site work, I guess I've been spoiled, only good thing is both my nephew and niece live across the road so they bring me tea to the fence when I want one 🙂

I won't tell you about the freshly made hot steak sandwich my customer made for my lunch then.....

I remember the site days well, and though it helped make me who I am today... I'll change jobs before I go back to working on sites!

I prefer a big site job with a good squad, toughens ye up. Rates are a bit mince tho.

Oi Mike, didnt your site induction include NO PHONES on site !!!!

I didn't get a site induction, they seem very lax there, I don't have a hard hat and nobody has asked to see my cscs card, I'm going to have to get a heater though, its too cold!

the rates were doin just now are really bad working in that veladrome there building for the commonwealth games pants lol

finishin 300metre job, community centre, heating on, inside working on T-shirt and watching poor groundworkers doin monoblockin...

it's been that cold on site that the bal green star is not going off. i removed 2 tiles today that i laid on friday and the addy was still soft. i'm going to put the heater on overnight in each room

Once you get the room heated up the greenstar will go off.

We done 40 social housings at the start of the year, only 5m2 per house but we were hitting out 4 a day. new sheets of plasterboard so were flinging the tiles on.

Dont be too picky with the tiles as not many brownie points at the end, (in my experience)

Im having the same problem with the greenstar at the moment, its just too frickin cold for it to go off! ended up switching to white bagged addy, which went off no problem........some of the greenstart is still soft. oh dear

we just finished 6 months on a mix of new builds and refurbs, been great, good money good laugh. Now the problem is we have 4 streets worth of doorsteps to tile. Pouring raid and freezing cold, not been nice. Dragging blow heaters around just adds to the woes 🙁

Penno I hear you!!

We have the same problem, 2 houses left on site & 5 front door platts.

We will do the 2 houses in just over half a shift but the platts are a different ball game.

Trying to get 2 days settled weather not too cold & not too wet. just dont get it at this time of year.

You lot must be gettin soft, during the last ice-age, I used to tile glaciers wearing one of wivers mankinis' and flip-flops.

Couldn't do it now though.:yikes:

Cheap rate site work.... bang em on with adhesive and grout supplied... get em grouted..get paid...
forget about setting times, tanking etc... they don't worry about it so why should you.
IN - OUT, this is not quality domestic work !!

Done quite a few commercial / site jobs recently. Tile on tile (because of cost, they did not want to pay for tiles removing \ re-plastering ) 6 x 6 whites over existing tiles. Benfer cement adhesive, long pot life, grout in a few hours,no spacers.
Throw as many as you can on wall in a day... the more metres you do,the more money you earn !!
Quality is not an issue here !! Been paid every time.
they get what they pay for !!.... plenty of lipped tiles, but what the heck. tiles we were tiling onto were lipped anyway !!

We're doing a big external cladding job at the moment it should have started in September, but its been pushed back to now...I hate the cold weather, everyone is miserable, and the problems seem worse in the winter.

Heres a work in progress...we are all fed up right now...roll on Christmas.

but what about the people that will live there??? any thoughts for them?

Been asked if I'd be interested in 98 houses, I've done 2 big sites for this firm before and know I'll get £30m2 from them, the reason why they asked me is 'cos they know I'll do it belt and braces and treat it as my own domestic job. So sometimes site work does pay if you stick to your principles.

Good on you if you can get that rate Doug but unfortunately not many builders have that attitude or funds available, I rung up today for the social housing job advertised on here yesterday, about 30 miles from here, 2 kitchen splashbacks a day, £ 450 a week! No thanks

Thats a rarity Doug to find someone who has that kind of outlook, good luck if you take it on..
