so what happened! mass produced rubbish. was the best, now the leader but not quality. you lucky to get 3 months out of a cutting wheel. old rubi wheels lasted years but not now. so whats happened?(ohh yes tiles were as hard back in the day!) quality today is poor even the boxes fall apart. this is not a dig at the spainish but the whole industry of machine making, can no one make a machine that does the job?

I can sense a bit of 'it was better in the good old days' in the body of your thread!

Through my coloured spectacles I can see the hammer and chisel for cutting the quarries with, the drum of ice cold water to soak the tiles, and the mixing of the sand and cement by shovel.

And your right everything is faster today - even the time it takes to wear out your diamond blade.

But I'd pay the extra on a daily basis if it means doing a better job in a tenth of the time.

Even 20 years ago I'd be lucky to get 3 months out of a blade on Terracotta, but now the same range of blade will last 2 days if I'am cutting the Gulfstone resin tiles!!!!

It may be just done to the materials we are using these lovely sunny days.

Used to be made in Spain. Now made in China for the most part I believe.
Even Montolit are supposed to be producing in China.
Original Style have moved production to "outside the UK".

Thank you and good-night globalisation!

manual cutters not diamond wet wheels mate. However you do have a point. by the way. my mate and i laid 28m2 of sand and cement screed 50mm depth. and tiled it with 600mmx600mm porcelain tiles by 12.30 this morning in central london. 36 floor , but we had to use the lift, it's a hard life. Thanks jay. i have an italian machine as well but not a sigma.

Best diamond wheels are still German made. Bet you the Rubi wheels are now chinese in origin.
They can copy everything well - but it takes time.....

Tiles have changed and so have cutting discs... I have never thought that Rubi were up there with the best of cutting wheels.

IMO Montolit are the best with the DNA range and the Per-gres wheels.. top top discs..

But second to these is the NEW!! Rubi Porcelain blade.. not sure if it is available bigger than the 110mm grinder size but deffo a good blade..

If that was the one on demo at the recent Mapei day it was nothing special at all.
