Hey folks,

I recentyl used PCI rapid set, flexi adhesive for a floor tiling job.

This stuff was great but, waste was more than usual as I had very little time to work with. (approx 20 to 30 minutes)

For those of you that have used this;

what would you say is your expected waste (%) ?

Do you have any tips for avoiding waste ? (I decided to make smaller batches)

Would you say £30 ish per 20kg bag is expensive?

Any comments welcomed.

only mix what you need put a smaller amount of water in the bucket when you mix it  yes sounds a bit expensive was it white ? but depends how much you buy at a time you can buy a box of pencils cheaper per unit than if you buy one at a time get to know your local tile shop the more you use them the cheaper you will get it😛ete

It was the dark colour grey/black and I used grey PCI Rapid set grout.

Can you reccomend any nationwide retails who do it at a reasonalbe price?

Or if anyone know of Retailers in central Scotland

Waste - what's that? 🙂

You shouldn't be wasting any tile adhesive. Other than the little bit at the end of the day that's still in the bottom of the bucket - and the bit on your tools.

Clearly if you're getting waste you're mixing too much.

Add little bits at a time when you're mixing of either the powder or water to get it right - as they say you can always put a bit more in but you can't take any back out.

I said this the other day; if your cement based adhesives are going off in the bucket and you add more water that'll do nothing. Cement based products use the water to start the curing process so once that's start all you're doing is wetting it a bit but it'll still be going off and you'll not be able to trust it to fix your tiles with. It's then like mixing sand and water as the cement bit has been used up so to speak.

How are you getting your waste?

I'd say 1% is too much - I'd have been told off if there was any more than that in my tiling days.

Cheers Andy, Im about a few miles from you mate, based in Livingston.

Hi Dan, I understand what you are saying. I think me leaving waste is probably due to my lack of experience, I am still studying at college and perhaps need to be faster before using Rapid set.

I di notice though that making smaller batches worked for me. I deffo would never try to remix with water. I have worked with cement products for other job in the building industry and no what can happen.

alright mate i used to have the same problem when using dunlop rapid set flexi just went off to quick plus it nackered the mixing buckets dhceramics is spot on adding more water to the adhesive lowers the bond. I now stick with mapei kerraquick, biscem or Bal one last pointer is that the faster the adhesive goes off the more shrinkage will take place and the bond ratio is nowhere near as good as a slower setting adhesive

Allright tfs - i used to use same stuff from ctd.edinburgh has a branch.i think you need to do a phone around to check who stocks it near you.there are quite a few in glasgow - ceramic tile warehouse ,cosmo ceramics and tedescos.Have you tried pci nanolight - its the dogs and easy to use -very light and has great coverage.mixing up the most comfortable amounts will come with practice.

i would try measuring out the powder in a scaled mixing bucket and adjust until you get right amount you can use in 20 mins or so then you will be able to judge it each time...

Cheers sweaty!

I will give them a buzz to check it out. I had a wee look on there website recently but, like most there was no price guide on there. I imagine its prob as they set it different for each client.
