I was told new members must say hello, so, "HELLO"....

I've been living in Perth Australia for the last 10 months, the building trade is booming out there. I tell you what, tiling is huge in Oz, the smallest tiling job i ever worked on was about 100sqm.
The last job i worked on before coming home was 1200sqm of 60cmx60cm polished porcelain floor tiles, that didn't include any wall tiling! It was newly built private home (mansion). Lots of money being made.

If your a good tiler and you fancy a change, they are still screaming out for skilled tilers.....

Hi and welcome. if it was that good out there why did you come back to this rain sodden country. My daughter did the gap year thing in Oz a few years ago and reckoned the west coast was the best.

It was good, but not good enough to make it home forever, i love the rain now after being baked in temps as high as 45c.

I tell you what, tilers in Oz have to do a lot more prep work than we do in UK.

In Oz, you have to sand & cement screed all your own floors prior to tiling, baths & showers have to be bricked up and rendered before tiling, all wet areas have to be water proofed.
And they never use plastic tile trim like we do here, they mitre all external angles. You do your mitres freehand with a 4inch grinder, the finished job looks good but what a ball ache, time consuming especially when your tiling with porcelain..

It was a good experience, picked up a few new tricks..

Its ok until you have to work outside in the heat, tiling in 35-40c is hard work ands it like that nearly everyday -

Before your start work - hats, long sleeve tops, sun glasses, sun tan lotion, 4litres of water, mosquito spray, fly spray (they drive mad, fly in your eyes, nose, mouth)....

You long for just one day of grey, overcast Blighty weather!

Remember to put all you tiles up the other way now:grin:

How do you deal with adhesive in that heat, it must go off like a bugger.

Just don't use rapid set, we always used slow setting adhesive's..
