I thought I would share these pictures with you of a customers bathroom that he tiled back in the 90's. Not only does he do tiling, but he also does electrical wiring (inc. putting in sockets in a bathroom). He can turn his hand at plumbing too.......but flooding the bathroom and the dining room was not his fault! He does plastering (to hide the damp), but again it was not his fault that the damp returned. His favourite trick is to pull up the floorboards and lay what looks like wooden doors to fill the gap. His bathroom floor consists of floorboards partly covered in concrete and wire mesh. He led me to believe that he has bought all the tiles and materials from Topps, but when I popped into Topps they said that he only came in for a quote. His measuring skills are pretty accurate. He measured the walls to be 16 square metres. I measured them to be 30sqm. I don't have any work on at the moment and I am seriously thinking of quoting a day rate for this job. He is going to help me too. All the signs are there for me to walk away, but the phone is not ringing with any other offers. I was thinking of asking for a day rate to be paid every 5 days. i.e. not when the job is complete. Do you think this is acceptable? Enjoy the pics. Sean

Obviously it's up to you but i would walk away from this one, certainly looks and he sounds like it may come back and haunt you. Could you really trust someone who does things like that i mean tv in the bathroom and do you really want him helping you keeping you right etc. if you know what i mean!

im with the lads, dont get involved.

Thats a first...telly in the bathroom, never seen the likes before.

Give him a day rate price for you to do it on your own,
then the same multiplied by three if insists that he is helping you.

Same as, sockets in the bathroom the mans a total ****** I'd walk, Thats what you can see, What about what you can't

and let him help :hurray:

Thats quality. Best laugh i've had since the op. Would walk away though m8. Had a customer who was like that,he did the mono-blocking,tried to take over when i was tiling his floor(thats not how we do it when putting mono-blocks down). was a right pain in the ar*e.:mad2: Will give u to much grief.

If the guy is dodgy and you think he might not pay get him to pay in stages or in advance as a deposit. Give him the old story did a job for a guy recently and got stung he never paid me after all I did for him blah blah but because of this I now take x amount up front then x amount after x days and remainder on completion ie I dont bill you at end of job and wait days to be paid I expect payment when I have completed the job. Say its no reflection on him or any customer you now treat everyone the same as you have lost to much money and its a sad way the country is when you have to do this.

If he aint going to cough up some money after x days he could be hassle.

I think it looks really good already mate, why is he wanting to rip it out and have it redone, waste of money imo.:lol:

Does he have sky hooked up to that telly?

Just to give you an update on this one: I phoned the guy back last night and quoted him a day rate, but I could not say how long the job would last. He was not happy with the price so he asked for an overall cost. I quoted him to do all the tiling inc. mats, and to lay Hardibacker floor. Under the proviso that he gets a plasterer in to sort out the walls, and he gets a plumber & sparks in too. His quick mind then suggested that we take the tiles off together and we just tile straight onto what’s behind the tiles. Yesterday he gave me the impression that he had bought tiles & materials - he had not. He also gave me the impression that he had bought a £1000 mobility shower (the one you sit into). He had not. He told me today that the shower people wanted £240 to assemble the shower unit and to secure it to the wall & floor. He believes he can do this himself as he has some roofing glue in his shed. I told him to get a builder in to do the work and to get himself a Polish lad to do the labouring. I told him that there are plenty of Polish shops with cards in the window. He then asked me for a list of Polish shops where he lives. I give up. Hopefully this will be my final update. Cheers Sean

Somebody should help this man or he will Kill himself of his family!
Rather it not be me though.
