I am laying some honed & filled nat travertine tiles in a first floor bathroom, this will be on, from bottom up
1. 25mm ply primed all sides mapei eco prim T
2.homelux tanking/decoupling membrane.fixed to ply with addy
3.ufh wire system
4. mapei fibreplan slc.
5.KERAFLEX adhesive white.
6Trav tiles.
7.50mmx50mm unfilled tumbled mosaic in a screened off shower area using keraflex.
Have just spoken to Mapei tech regarding the primer,i happened to
,mention what adhesive i was going to use and he said that i should be using keraquick with latex plus as the longer cure time of the keraflex may leech into the travertine!!.Please tell me i will be ok with the keraflex as i have 10 bags coming from the other side of the country to me.
Only a diy'er so i thought i'd be better off with the longer curing time!!Thanks.

It will be fine with travertine.. i have used it loads of times....even if it did , it just you have to leave the stone to dry a bit longer...make sure you back skim each tile to prevent shadowing but not usually a problem with travertine....limestone yes but travertine no...

Technical can only advise what you should be using for 100% guarentee from mapei, but as long as the floor is deflection free then keraflex maxi will be fine....IMO

are you using the homlux as tanking or a decoupler?
is this a wetroom?

and are you getting keraflex maxi or keraflex? two completly different products!
i am with dave but i would use keraflex maxi, not normal keraflex!

Dave. Thanks i am happy with that phew, one other thing mapei tech also said that the homelux membrane will need priming with the eco t! is that correct?

Dagger, both really, i have the stuff for walls and another for floors which i was told will act as a waterbarrier and decoupler! is that correct?
will be normal kerraflex!,why maxi? i don't need to lay it on extra thick?

maxi is S1, more flexi... keaflex is c2te sill flexi but not as much!
i have used both, and on plywood.
i just prefer to use S1 now days on ply!

The maxi is more flexible and can cope with a thicker bed depth...

Soz i just noticed you put keraflex and not maxi....didn't we advise the maxi in the last thread..?

i would do it this way!

1.prime ply and makesure its well screwed.
2. lay heatmat and fibreplan.
3. when dry prime with primer g
4.layhomelux matting. (i dont see the point of putting it on the floor if its not a wetroom personally)
5. lay tiles.
6. grout.

Just been called to say adhesive etc. has landed at home! no going back now, will just have to make extra care that the floor is rock solid with the extra noggins etc!!

Why primer g?thought that was only for gypsum etc, what about eco prim t?
Its all on my doorstep now, will i be ok with the normal keraflex?
sorry scrub that, yes primer g on the slc. Thanks
Thought i needed the membrane as a decoupler for the wooden floor, waterproof as well! belt and braces as i have heard so often here!

Can you not add a latex additive to the Keraflex to make it up to an S1??
no!

you can only put latex plus in keraquick!!!!!!

i went on a job once where the tiler had mixed keraflex and latex plus,
the floor took 2 weeks to set!

So it does work then?! It's only his bathroom - i'm sure he could manage without it for a fortnight!

yes it does work, but slows the drying time to a standstill, he is a mate of mine and claims he picked up the wrong bag of addy at the shop.
he had done a lovly job of it, and no one was living in the house so he waited....after several calls to mapei tech! i might add!:mad2::lol::lol::lol::lol:

all i can say is before mapei "invented" keraflex maxi,
we used keraflex for everything!

but that does not make it right today!
