Hardie question.

Quick question guys re 6mm hardie board going over 18 mm ply. I've been to 3 different topps tiles to get the 25mm hardie screws but they only have the 32mm which are too long. (Pipes etc). Can you use 20 or 25 mm turbo gold screws. I'm sure I saw something on here where some tilers do. Thanks

Yeah lots of people use the turbo drive twin thread wood screws u can also buy 25mm treated(green/grey coating) screws for decking which are almost exactly the same as backer board screws

Really? No I got the adhesive. Bal rapid flex fibre plus. Topps sid it was the best one. Expensive though!

And they were smoking hands when you left (with an empty wallet)!
Never been to Tops so how much was the Bal adhesive?

The no more ply screws I use are 'self drilling' they have a little drill bit on the end of each screw, but at about £9 a box I'm gonna try these out instead

Blimey.......£39.99 a bag !!.....daylight robbery...

Out of interest what would you guys pay for the same or equivalent adhesive. Obviously you are using it all the time and will have trade accounts but even for a diyer you're right 40 quid a bag is ridiculous. I was asking a guy in another tile shop who said you get what you pay for. I went for bal because on every tile course I went on they kind of pushed bal and didn't mention any other addy.

Although I asked you how much you'd paid, we don't reciprocate the courtesy and discuss prices in open forum. Sorry!
However in future you could try a trade tile distributor and you may be able to get a couple of bags of a similar product for that price.
I've used Bal products since the early '70s (1970's) from one of there earliest ready mixed adhesives Bal Tad to their wide joint grey grout and they have some guaranteed good products. But unless specified there are some excellent alternatives at trade prices.
