Hardie backer PDF

I had a blank and couldn't remember if they advised sticking with non-flexi or SPF, turns out non-flexi is advised. Always good to keep up to date with the technical side of the trade

I was chatting to the rep the other day about the 100 KG and he said it had been tested to 4 ton :yikes:

is that on to ply??

Yeah, 15mm ply or 18mm chip board onto joists spaced no further than 600mm apart. Schluter recommend a non-flexi for sticking ditra down, even over UFH that's what made me look.

From page 2 on the PDF.
i use spf looks like i need to give them a call

That doesn't make sense to me!?! Surely, when the wood expands and contracts, a non flexi would crack, and de-bond!?! Or are they saying to use non-flexi on top of the Hardie? As you can probably tell, I haven't bothered looking at the .pdf yet.. 😀

The adhesive is not a fixing for the boards it just allows foran even installation the screws are the fixing system

Anyone here tried to rip Hardie back up?
I have & I can tell you one thing, the adhesive certainly sticks the Hardie down.
I have always used flexi to stick the boards down & couldn't believe how hard it was to come up.

I hope everyone peels the stickers off the back before fixing, if only they had reward points on them

I just havnt seen them, tbh where I get the hardie they rarely have enough bags of screws net alone tools lol

I always try and use the Hardibacker scorer (got 2 from reps at Trade Days - they last well too) even on 12mm board because I would rather score a dozen times than generate the dust that grinding causes.

I was told by Hardi that the only reason they recommend non-flexi is because it's cheaper and it's the screws that are primarily used for the sticking and the adhesive is used purely to remove any voids. So no problem using either.

The hardie rep has been on here and said exactly that mate, I'll have to have a look for the post. It seems daft to use 2 different types of adhesive, that's why I use SPF for sticking the boards and then the tiling.
