Floor tiles lifted on calcium based self level floor

Tilers Forums Official Sponsors

Hi all,my tiler fitted 600x600 porceline tiles to my calcium based concrete slab,it was 4 months after it being poured and he did a test by laying a peice of polythene taped around edges to see if it was still emiting moisture, this was after it was professionally sanded sorry and no moisture was detected,
He proceeded to seal the floor with norcos prime bond (duck egg green colour) the day before and layed tiles with decent Weber adhesive which I supplied,
Few month after moving in and building heat up gradually I heard crackling sound,I’ve now lifted every tile with a sucker leaving the floor perfectly clean,no adhesive has stuck apart from a hand sized area around a door post and beside back door,
On backs of tiles shows signs of a green colour like the bonding norcos primer, can any one help to what has happened as tiler at a loss as well

Why the mix of primer and adhesive manufacturers? ...although it wouldn't usually cause a problem but you have lost any manufacturers warranties mixing them up..

I've seen two around my way, tiled one, the other wouldn't let me test it so walked.
I have test equipment but really can't see it taking of at all.
I did have a customer who had a company lined up to do about 300m2, 50m2 was a pool surround. He was expecting me to tile it after 2 weeks. Got sand and cement in the end.

Probably not the best for a pool surround anyway. Where abouts is it you live Julian? I see a a fair few around here, and not exclusive to really big jobs either.

More and more in Lancashire area. Still mainly clueless and they're sold as rapid drying with no mention of laitence or sanding or heating commissioning.
Thankfully there are still some brilliant sand and cement screeders around here.

with my very, very limited dealings with these companies I've found the same. No mention of drying times and very little details in the hand out paperwork.

Bloody hell Julian I would have thought they would be loads going on down your way.
thank god I don't.

I don't understand how they can **** up a liquid screed as badly as they do, got one on myself in April, the one Andy Local sanded for me and its 50mm out from one side of the room to the other 🙁

He's payed, they have been back and ground some off but will still need a sh#t load of leveler to make good..

Pics look like combination of moisture and poor prep. Lots of laitance and dust on the back if that tile which suggests inadequate sanding or vacuuming. Looking at it I think you would have struggled even with a compatible adhesive. With cement it looks like it was doomed.

Thats a heck of an achievement...

Just because it's been professionally sanded, doesn't mean it's been done properly, most of the Anny screeds I go to, they say, the company came back sanded it so it is fine to tile, when in fact it's not, sand them too early and more latence will settle, and the guys screeding don't care about the prep a quick go over with light machine and they think it's fine, when in fact again it's not, same with proper dying times, they tell customers it will dry in X amount of time, when we all know it's only dry when a proper hygrometer or other test is done and gives sufficient reaults. Knowledge on these screeds is key

Apparently tilemaster make analfix to order now, as it’s not widely used and being sodded off, as it causes more problems for contractors than the initial layout .
Most of the ones I’ve done are ok, the one I’m on at the moment is the worst floor I’ve ever tiled
