Glad the price was a typo, I was hoping it would be 🙂

We will soon be going e-commerce and having a much better website than we do now. It will have prices etc. That will be going live soon 🙂

Sadly, we don't offer a tile cutting service but if you ask, they may do some cuts for you 🙂

As for the star 40. I presume it is a Rubi Star 40? If you turn the handle anticlockwise, it should release the scoring wheel and rod. If you take that into the Brixton shop, you should be able to buy a replacement wheel which will be much cheaper than a new cutter. About £8 if I remember correctly.

Once again, thanks for the feedback, I will link this thread to the powers that be so they can see it 🙂

Yes, I have seen the rods so was going to take that down, and funnily enough, I had an idea of the price, so maybe there are things that are priced.

Yes, it's a Rubi Star 40.

They're not tilers down there, so I don't know whether they'll be willing to cut or not, but it's worth asking. I'm sure they're sick of the sight of me so the sooner I get this finished, the better for them.

Minnie, I'm sure Matt's sick of the sight of me too as I've been in and out his store loads in the last month

By the way, just referring back to the thread title, did you get any pictures or ideas of external corners? I've just tiled my bathroom using external corners with tile trim. I'll go and take a photo and post it up.

Liz 🙂

We are definitely not tilers, I talk the talk

We never get sick of customers

Good luck with the rest of your job. If there is anything I can help with, feel free to ask 🙂

There's still unanswered questions on my other threads

I'm sure if men got sick of the sight of you, there'd be something wrong with them. (Hoping to earn brownie points here :smilewinkgrin🙂

People posted pictures of mitre joints which are beyond my capabilities. I think it's going to have to be tile trim. Someone suggested the square-edged would be better as it may be easier for me to cut. I'm not mad on the plastic ones and I believe metal ones are a bit pricier, but maybe I'll have to fork out but then I already bought some plastic curvy stuff for under the window

If you haven't cut the trim, you can take it back to store and swap it against the chrome/gold/satin trims if you want

minnie, I've got a photie of some tiling I did with square edged trim, it was on a bath boxing, but the principle is the same, I'll post it for you

I know this is badly fitted, but does this help with your thoughts Minnie?

Nah, I decided to practice and cut an inch or two off. It was a mess!

How much are the non-plastic ones please?

Yes, and I think the metal looks much nicer than the plastic.

Where's the rest of the pictures of your bathroom eh?

I'm really annoyed as I really want to go and do some more tiling as I'm so behind, but my next wall is the wall that's going to need tile trim and I don't have any, so I can't do anything today, except maybe put one colnmn of tiles in. I assume if I'm to do a corner like that, rather than overlapping with the tile from the other wall, I take each tile right to the edge?

my bathroom.. grout still drying

That's very neat and nice, clean and simple.

I had wanted to go for white as I figured it would make the horizontal tiling easier. However, my b/f said it reminded him of his four months in hospital. :mad2:

I had originally wanted to go for a 25x33 tile but realised there would be a lot of wastage when I inevitably screw up the horizontal tiling.

Have just found a picture of a square-edged trim and I'm wondering how difficult it could be if my tiles didn't end up flush with the trim.

That wasn't the trim i was thinking about to be honest. I was thinking square as in 90 degrees.. Maybe Flat would be a better description. 😀

Oh, I think I know what you're talking about. Similar to what goes on kitchen worktops?

looks like you have put trim at the top of yor tiles where they meet the celing

for some reason, when i took the pic, a thick grey shadow showed up in the picture. but it's not there in real life. but the pic looks good and half makes me wish i'd put a trim or border at the top too!

There's always time

Matt

Just got back from Topps Tiles and Tile Giant.

Went into Tile Giant first and checked for prices. The only thing I could see priced other than tiles, was a load of trowels hanging up on the wall behind the counter.

Went on to Topps - absolutely everything was priced, got a mitre box and junior hacksaw.

Went back to Tile Giant and got a new blade for tile cutter and picked up more tiles. Made a note to look behind counter to see if there were any price lists visible and/or readable to a customer but couldn't see anything.

Went and looked at the shelves the adhesive and grout was sitting on. There's a good 4 or 5 inches of shelf edge for them to display prices. Quite shocking really.

Sorry for your bad experience, I will be passing this on.

I didn't realise some shops had the space to price adhesives/grout as we don't in my shop.

I sneakily took a few photos. Please don't get the lads in there in trouble as they're a nice bunch. Maybe nobody's bothered to tell them they should have the prices up.

As you can see, the ledge has plenty of space to put a price on it.

The shelves run along the length of the shop and underneath them are adhesives and grouts. I didn't see any prices.

and behind the counter, the trowels are the only prices I could see - just about

Thanks for the pics. My shop is nothing like that one. We don't have the shelf above the adhesive. As for behind the counter, we are having them re-merchandised so that every shop is the same. I presume that is why the wall is empty (at least I hope that's the reason  )

Should be interesting to see if there's improvements

I know this is an old thread, but found it while searching on mitred joints! Anyway, I thought it worth mentioning that my local Tile Giant in Dundee is also a bit weak on pricing stock such as adhesives etc. a shelf edge label or a price list on the wall would help, but as friendly and helpful as the guys in there are (and I've since found them to be great), I do think this is an area that can be improved. It's off putting having to ask for prices on stuff. In fact the first time I went in there I bought my addy next door in Topps simply because it was priced there and I incorrectly assumed that TG hadn't priced theirs because perhaps they weren't competitive.

Clearly my mistake in reality as I've learnt better since, but something TG could still improve on. There is always space to put shelf edge price labels 🙂. And perhaps some novice friendly decodes as to what keraflex and keraflex maxi might mean! Topps sold me a load of BAL rapid flex that I really didn't need as a first timer putting up small format ceramic tiles on that occasion! Had I known at the time that keraflex maxi was cheaper and probably more appropriate in TG I'd have bought in TG, but its daunting when you don't know what something costs, isn't labelled and has foreign sounding hitec names like mapei kerawotsit. 🙂

sorry for dragging up this old discussion, but it struck something of a chord - TG are great, but some minor improvements to user friendliness would make them better 🙂
