Tiling over thermolite blocks

:mad2: this sums up my frustration!

doing up my bathroom at the moment and i need to tile the walls around the bath. currently there are some tiles round the bath however these are very old and there is insufficient tiles covering the walls.
The main wall along the bath is made up of thermolite blocks, so i have been told.
the question is what is the best way to tile over such walls.
would be most grateful for any advice.

hi, yes i am
i have got people to come round to qoute me, they all say diffrent things so i am really confused and dont trust any of them.
🙁

Depends on the tiles you are using. If they were heavy tiles then probably get it rendered but usually boards will suffice.

Breeze blocks i have tiled directly too but would not to thermalites.. they need to be dry lined IMO..

I would dry line the blocks, thermolites have a habit of cracking which would follow into the tiles.

Id dryline as well, thermalite are to soft and brittle IMO,worst bloke ever invented to plaster/render too never mind tile

Thank you Sir Ramic, David Howe Tiling, Whitebeam, Bubblecraft andwidler.

After 6 quotes, not kidding, and having viewed some clips on the web i am now thinking of doing this myself.

Would be grateful if you anyone could give me some advice on what material i will need to do the dryline.

Very grateful for the help already given.

You will need 12.5mm plasterboard and dry wall adhesive, you will probably find 1.80 x .900mm boards would be easier to handle in an occupied property.

Thank you gents. Think will be going with plasterboard. Any particular drywall adhesive you would recommend?

Also what material would you recommend to tile the tiles to the plaster board?

Thanks

Just standard British Gypsum Drywall Addy will do

When you say what material to tile the tiles on the wall, do you mean the tile material like ceramic or porcelain or the adhesive to put them up? Things to consider when picking you tiles, make sure your tile inc adhesive & grout does not exceed 32kg pm2. That is your max weight limit for tiling onto PB. The tile you pick will also determine the adhesive to be used
