spirit level

If you could have only one size, what would it be??

im looking to run leaner, fed up with having loads of tools i only use once in a while, im getting a new spirit level but only one, so what's the most diverse size, im thinking 1200.

I cannot see how one would work... after all some wall lengths are under 1 mtr long etc.. and window cills and heads and so on..........

I use a 600mm/1200mm/1800mm and that suffices for me... oh and i have a boat level if required. 🙂

I use all of mine
2400, 1800, 1200, 600, 300 & 150

I'd say I use my 1200 the most but it cannot be use in all situations. I would defo have at least the 1800, 1200 & 600. Most things can be done with these

I rarely use my level on the top or sides of tiles, i have my laser for that, i only really use it across the face of my tiles to ensure they are plumb on the walls and lippage free on floors.

I don't just use my beads for tiling. As above, I use my laser & beads for the face & floor tiles

I currently have wicked 600 and 1200 reason i like them is they have very clean aluminum plate on bottom, goog for lippage detection and easy to wash but not really sure how accurate they are. I also have 1800 b&q one which i really just use as a straight edge. Next purchase will be decent level or levels either fatmax or stabila.

No idea TBH. I got my set about 2 years ago. Came with a tape measure too. Really good set. Have taken a good bashing & still solid & square. Screwfix's price is pretty good on them just now. Trade point do the same set but not sure on there price.
I'd give it 9 out of 10. The reason I don't mark it 10 is the carry bag. The pockets that hold the 1200 & 600 are easily ripped which makes it pretty difficult to pack away at the end of the night when you just wanna get home lol

I have an 1800 fat-max in a padded bag,1200 stibila and a selection of smaller -ones ,lasers wall/floor  i have a stibila that is 37 years old that my late mother bought for me ,that has sentimental value and is retired in the garage

Used Stabila all my tiling life, I have a 400 and 1000mm ones at the moment with a straight edge and the great water level.

All the very best to everyone on the Forum for 2013

My 2400 level is a Stabila. Only really use it for cutting 8x4 plasterboard or marking sheet materials. Great for doing dot & dab too

I like the look of the fatmax looks really strong!! In our trade, our levels take a real bashing getting covered in adhesive and dot dabbing so the robust build of it really appeals.

I think you all underestimate yourselves... A top tiler could easily get by with one level imo

40 inch stabila girder level which does not have the rubber ends so sets in the corners really well. Best level though quite dear. 600 mm square end stabila plastic level again for its square end. Not expensive but good. 300mm boat level. I think minimum requirement in sizes to carry to cover all diverse angles etc. One level only! get the girder level will last you for years, probably had mine for 9 years and as good level wise as the day i purchased it.

if i could only have one size would be a 10 yrs old plus stabila black cap cheap as chips 600mm level robust which i would sit on various lengths of 3 x 2 box section refina straight edges.
i actually cant find a single level in recent years that does not read out within 6 months.

Fatmax Extreme XL for me Jonny - had it well over a year and it is spot on still (Never used it to knock any nails in yet though)

Got a set of Stabila 196s recently and impressed with them. The Draper Experts were getting a bit unreliable a few years on after plenty of knocks.

Not sure about using just one level. You could get away with a 600 certainly but would need 3 sizes of straight edge to go with it. You couldn't lay a broken bond floor with a 600 level.
