Perfectly Tiled

Ive done a 16.5m2 kitchen in slate.

The job is fully laid but not sealed or grouted. the customer has told me there is a few mm lip on a few tiles.

I no slate can be chissled to rectlify this, is there anyone in the cleveland area that is confident at chisleing them if this needs to be done as im not.

Im going back to look at these tiles later this afternoon and will no more then.

Some of the tiles range from a thinkness of about 6-7 mm to 11 -12mm and they are 600 x 400.

My mobile number is 07721738861 if you are interested in doings this or no anyone that can helpme out

Thanks

Scott

honestly mate its not too difficult,,just get a feather bolster and lay level with the lips and go for it the layers/lips will knock off no problems at all,i was like that my 1st time as well nervous about doing it but you have nowt to worry about.

hi mate, its just a thin edged bolster like a heavy duty chisel..if you go to b and q and ask a member of staff for a feather bolster/chisel they will direct you to it..only bout 5 quid maximum...lie it almost flat with your tiles and angle it ever so slightly toward the highest lips an knock with your hammer the edges will come off easy,,remember and seal those tiles before you grout as well mate if u aint already done it.

Kilty's right - it is dead easy to do. You can't crack a stone doing it, it simply flakes off. Just be careful of slipping the chisel and scratching the slate. Go for it - you'll be pleased you did!

Cheers everyone... I may have a go shortly then, im having some family trouble at the minute also thats why id like someone to come and get it done before i can.

If you no anyone then there could be some good cash in it.

The job has had 2 full coats of sealer and ready to grout.

I though it was a better job if you can stand on the tile as you chip you dont want to loosen any

Fair enuff, but I would have thought that if they are bedded properly, there is no chance of breaking the adhesive bond with the small amount of force needed to split the slate.

Of course, if they are poorly bedded......you have a very valid point!

na the tile wont come up with bolstering the edge unless adhesive aint sticking but theres nothing to suggest this so it should be fine

There definatly bedded properly, no worries there otherwise id take em up other than chisel away.

a sharp 2" bolster Scott, place it on the lip pointing upbanks and a sharp tap with a hammer will do it. Best to place an old towel on top of slate that you're gonna rive to stop shards flying everywhere tho'!

scott..

how bad is the lipping.........PM me some more details... i know someone who can finish for you....
