Hi All
Any thoughts on setting out a bathroom much appreciated.
The tiles are 600x400 trav and there are 2 rooms-old bathroom that has a arch way through to the new part.
I am setting out around a large window and the wall cuts are all very well balanced but if i have the grout lines flowing from the wall through the floor it leaves a well off centred tile where the arch way links the 2 rooms.
Would anybody go with this or would they centre the archway floor up and not have grout lines connecting, would that stand out as looking out of place.
Cheers
Kev

It's difficult to picture Kev. It sounds as though it's one of those judgement calls where you have to rely on your experience.

It sounds to me as though you feel that it will look better if the lines do not flow to the floor. Often your first instinct is the correct way.

I've seen examples of your work and know that you will do a top class fixing job so if you feel that you get a better look by not having the grout lines flow to the floor then go for it.

With tiles that size I would have thought you could move them to accommodate everything, whats the walls made up of?

If you are following the bond and its not through the centre of your arch then the tiles down both sides of the arch are not going to be symmetrical/equal.
Without seeing the room a difficult call, but I'd consider the focal point of the first wall area you see as you enter the room.

In this case I would cut feature tiles to follow the curve of the arch which I would centre at the head of the arch like a key stone and then let the setting out run through the floor from the centred window ,the key stone feature will balance the arch nicely and may be adjusted in size to avoid any small cuts hope this helps

great idea there gary, the keystone would look the part too.Even with rounded edges or something.

It is hard to picture and describe.
When there are 2 rooms plus sometimes there has to be a compromise
At some point will be be posting the pics so will be good to hear your thoughts
Thanks
Kev

toughie, but I always like cuts up the window symmetrical, and the arch too! I think I'd have to compromise on not marrying the floor joints to the wall joints.
