Hi There,

Ive just turned 28 and have been very keen to learn all aspects of tiling and then start my own tiling business in the UK...but i have worked out the total cost of business start up including the learning aspect would come to just under £9,000 with the cost of the course coming in at £2,360 alone! I am saving at the moment but this is a very slow process and i was wondering if anyone had any other ideas...about grants or loans etc?

Many thanks

Re: Help need some advice to fund my learning and the starting of my own tiling busin

you can divide that by 3. course will cost you £300 quid. tecnique come with experience not money.

Buy tools as you go, buy what you need on this starter tool list

http://www.buybrandtools.com/acatalog/Rubi_Tiling_Tools_Kits.html

If you need more tools on next jobs pay with profit from the job, all that would be no more then £400

Then you need a van thats signed up, Decent van £1500 with graphics £1700

Advertising, yell, £150 local rag £30 a week. loads of business cards £70

Everything else will come with experience, the lot should be less than £3000

Ive just saved you £6000 so the fee will be £1000, do you need my bank details, hehe

£9,000 that's a nice big budget to play with, you probably could spend this on setting up. Training, tools, van, van sign writing, public liability insurance, advertising...the list goes on, Go onto www.tradetiler.com for tools etc, the guy who owns it used to be a tiler for 16 years so he knows what tools you will need to start up. Good luck

Hi Waynos, you should be able to get up and running for way less than that. I did!

Welcome to the forums by the way.

Hi Waynos, I was in the same boat as you without the money. I went on a training course for £450, basic tools for me was about £400 and then i went out tiling. As soon as i make enough money i will get a van.
Save your 9 grand, satisfaction will come from buying tools and van with the money you earn from the jobs you do.

Hello and welcome to the forums mate.... Cost me £350 for course, £400 for tools, £1300 for van, £49 for 5000 leaflets and free business cards from vista...You should be able to get started with around 2-3 grand mate...

Hi there wayno,
i started with about 2000 worth of tools then bought a small van on HP so tax man can help with the payments,
i like my tools and have em all so had to eventually buy a bigger van to carry all so now i can even supply and deliver tiles to my jobs!
Good luck in getting startd.

hi and welcome mate.
Try the princes trust they will fund up to the age of 30 for all sorts of ventures,
you will have to do a short business course and your forecasts will have to be spot on because you will go in front of a panell of accountants, solicitors, doctors ecand so on, but it is a good way of funding
part of it will be a interest free loan and the other will be a non repayable grant.
i have put my Brother and 2 mates down this road and all have had funding.
Hope this helps:thumbsup:

I'm not sure about grant etc., but I spent £1800 on a course, £1000 on tools, £250 for van sign writing and £60 on business cards and polo shirts - business is good - I made a grand profit this week.

If you've got 9 grand, then your laughing!

Good luck

Hey Captain Slow, yeah 1800 sounds about right for a course that is complete (although i do understand experiance and knowledge comes with doing the jobs)........ how have you advertised? and how much have you spent?
