Hi Guys

Just want to pick your brains if i may...

I have a bathroom floor that has had the floor boards ripped up and replaced with 18mm marine grade ply. The floor area is about 2.5M x 2.5M. My question is the ply is not one sheet and as 2 smaller cut outs, could this cause me any problems in the future with any joist movement ???

Also if you could recommend a good adhesive for the granite tiles and also what size notch trowel to use ?

Keep up the good work and thanks in advance

Gavin

Ok.. Alkaline resistant joint tape for the board joints and then an S1 adhesive to stick the tiles.. 3mm joint is BS standard.

Thanks for your responses on this Dave and Phil

Any recommendations on the the trowel size to use ??

Solid bed 10mm better yet 12mm, half moon trowel, and back skim tiles, with flat edge of trowel imo:thumbsup:

Thanks guys, one last question. S1 adhesive, is this a type of adhesive that is produced by various manufactures ? ie google brought loads of different S1 adhesive products up...

will this do -Mapei Keraflex Maxi Flexible S1

I prefare Mapei Keraquick with latex plus, just my opinion, awsome stuff.

excellent, then thats what i will go with... Thanks again lads, i will hopefully sleep better tonight and with less tiling questions going through my head 🙂

Keep up the good work

Gav

Check your tiles before you start laying, as you may find they are running out of calibration, youve not said what the format size is. If they are running out a couple of mm, then your better of not going with that 2mm joint, Id reckon on a 3mm joint, and im with Phil go for Mapei Keraquick with Latex Plus, little bit more costly but well worth the money.

Hi Pebbs

Your right about the calibration as some of them are out, if layed on top of each other some look as if they are warped or out by a 1mm or 2mm. I think 3mm it is then for the spacer, i was going for a minimal grout look to show the tiles off butt 1mm isnt going to hurt.

Just been checking the data sheet for Mapei Keraquick, it recommends a upto 7mm bed, Phill is saying use 10mm or 12mm bed. Will 7mm do ? or go for a different adhesive that will take the thicker bed ?

Gav

a 10/12mm trowel will not giive you that depth of bed it will be reduced by about 1/3 by the time you have pressed the tile firmly into the adhesive

Sorry Gav, I did not make myself clear, a 10mm/12mm trowel will not give a 10mm/12mm bed, as David says above. The trowel notches will give you a solid bed of 3mm to 5mm of adhesive when pressed or tapped in with a rubber mallet/ hammer.
