Got the dreaded phone call today.

I do not feel like a bombshell today, I looked more like a bombshell has dropped on me...I got dollop of akimi stuck in my hair...and i think its got to be cut out!

I think we all value our reputations, and when something goes wrong even if its not down to us..we panic, because our name is stamped all over the job.

Chin up and soldier on....now someone pass the scissors.

Phil - i'll ring you over the weekend with all the details you'll need to pursue this!

More like...........arrrrrrrrrrrrrkeeeeeeeeeeemi! and yes I always order extra hardners because you can never get enough of them!

Seriously though Phil, and I mean this in the advice it is given. Phil you have to distance yourself a little from the problem, because if this hits the fan...and it will, you could have your good name and reputation dragged into it. Then they started quoting things you may have said, and take things out of context. They can turn and say its fixer error, could blame anything from the adhesive to poor installation of the matting. These suppliers are a bunch of (umm I cant think of a polite word here) .... snakes they will try and squirm out of it because of the financial implications involved. Step away a little and let them battle it out. I have had this happen to me twice, on where there has been failures on floors, one was due to that 'floaty' decoupler its name I cant remember because I never want to hear the name of it again, and the other because although I advised we needed ditra, we were told to 'get on with it' as there wasnt enough money in the budget.

Hope this helps Phil, chin up.

Lynn

Before I make the call to Phil with the details just a short reply !

We had a problem with the Genisis G Mat on a 60 metre porcelain floor over wood and concrete in 2010.
We completed a questionnaire sent by E mail from Genisis and they arranged a site visit. It was admitted at that time a problem with a batch of matting from a German factory existed and Genisis contacted their importers/distributors who arranged for a company to resin inject the floor. However this would not have been acceptable in our case due to too much movement in the surface tile that would remain proud after injection - ie the floor has to be flat to remain flat! It was then a question of submitting a estimate to remove and replace the whole floor with cost to their supplier, who in turn passed it on to their insurance agents and a cheque duly arrived to redo the complete job.
Like all disputes there will be a time delay and inconvenience, but in our case it was handled and dealt with by Ctd and Genisis on a manner associated with a reputable company.
If the customer and Ctd agree the dates of supply of the mat and this is with the 'faulty' period then I don't believe their is an issue other than settlement.
Just to reiterate this has no reflection on fixer capabilities, this is a product failure which is big money!

Fantastic news John.

Phil will be pleased.

are TTA in a position to be able to step in here Phil?
I was thinking this last night.......but would the TTA have the balls to act against a TTA member with so much at stake? If one manufacturer took the pip at the actions of the TTA, could more manufacturers follow suit, and so on and so, so that the TTA loses it's member base?

if it put as much effort in to signing up tilers then there would be a balance of power .with a bit more effort put into sharing info when problems arrive .

Thanks to all for your advice, I would also like to thank timeless John we just had a chat on the phone. he has put my mind at rest on this issue, John is a true gent and a top tradesman.

I will keep you all posted on the ongoing story as it unfolds, thanks again for your concern and help. If it wasn't for TF and it's members I probably would not be awere of this problem.

as long as you don't bend me over a table while you're holding a sharp object Phil, I don't care ha ha:lol:

Latest on this, the customer has sent my method statement to CTD and Genesis, so we wait for their reply.
Another job next door but one has also rang to say his orangery and gymnasium floors are crunching. This one was Dural, I have spoken to Gerard and he is going to get in touch with this customer, I hope they both get sorted.:mad2:

Thanks guys, I am keeping my distance on these two and hope the people at fault do the right thing.

It does still make you wary about Dural doesn't it Phil.. but at least Dural do sort it..

The same thing happened to me Phil on a 50 mtre floor!with the old Dural matting, the customer didn't Evan know its only that I went back 16months later to tile there bathroom went to have a look at the floor I did,all the grout was in tact but a crunchy floor!! So I'd heard a few things in the forum about this happening, and I made a swift call to Dural, they owned up to it and sorted it you should be ok mate... But it does make me wary about using these systems now??
