i looked at a job to day its a kitchen splash back 5m2 the customer is getting the tiles from b and q there called snake skin there a 100x100 glass tile with 18 ct gold leaf in them.

there only supposed to be used as an inset tile however she wants to use them for all the tiling costing over a grand for 5m2 :yikes:

she wants to use black grout and the label on the back of the tile sample she had said great care must be taken when groutintg these tiles.

so any ideas what grout to use that won't damage the tile?

Would have to be a super fine grout i would say.Don't know if they do Kera SF in black though.

you need to check the backing on the tiles, they might need to be fixed with epoxy..

I've got a glass splashie coming up, too. Can you elaborate on how I decide whether I should be using epoxy, please?

My experience with glass tiles is they need to be fixed on a solid bed to prevent trowel lines showing through. They break clean but you can see through the tile so the cut aint pretty. Will need to Silicon all internal and external cuts to cover this. Price accordingly mate there not easy work.

If they are fire coloured bonded then they need a C2(S2) adhesive and if they are painted backs then they need an R1 or R2 adhesive..( epoxy)..

Both fixing methods need to be flat backed.. i'e no ribs showing..

Thanks Dave, I'm showing some inexperience here but the difference between fire coloured bonded and painted backs? How do I identify which is which?

I've done loads of glass with no issues and have used a white flexi with no issues, are painted back glass quite rare?

Additional info: I have only used Ardex 7001 white (S2) once when I had a plywood substrate to fix to, have I been lucky?
