Have a bathroom to tile from the floor halfway up the walls - but the idiots have painted the entire area to be tiled with white paint as well as the top half of the wall!

Can I get away with scouring the paintwork to tile on?
And how long do I have to wait before tiling before the paint sets enough to to do that?
or is better to remove it all?
They are fairly large tiles. I did a quick test spreading adhesive on the walls - and it made all the paint soggy as hell - so I had to down tools yet again.
Just cannot believe it.
----
p.s. it was painted only a few days ago.

customers eh, don't you love 'em.
Sounds like it might come off easier than most if the adhesive went to work on it that fast. Scoring then scraping or a wall paper stripper? No chemical removers though. Better still get the customer to do it.

Only thing to think about is that the tile and adhesive will only be sticking to the thin layer of paint, and not the actual substrat of the wall.

There again, yonks ago, i did tile my kitchen with mosaics on paint, only a spalsh back, and it's still stuck well.

Give the paint a good rough over with corse sandpaper and it should be ok.

how old does paint have to be before you can get away with scouring it?
1 week, months?

I hate clients who do that. I still have long time builders who do it! I always say on quote, don't put paint on walls. A wall paper steamer will take off emulsion paint engough to tile. Good luck!

Its always best to remove as much as possible really, and I have heard a wall paper steamer does do well on paint.
