Just a basic question on drilling holes for waste & water feeds in bathrooms.

Do you charge extra for these or are they included in your metre rate? If you charge extra for these then how much do you charge per hole as not only does every hole you cut wear out drill bits but also takes alot of time if there are say 6 holes on average in a bathroom floor without W.C waste?

you really need to!
the time it takes and the wear and tear on your expensive drill bits!

Any advice on what would be reasonable amount to charge?

for example meter rates around here are £25 for ceramics & £40 for porcelain & if I were using 365 porca drill bits what would you charge extra per hole drilled?

I have a higher rate for porcelain to take drill bits and extra time into consideration:thumbsup:

if you need to drill holes to fit tiles, you cant charge imo..

if the customer asks you to hang a mirror, soap dish etc. then each hole is chargable!

Imo.

Dagger.

Mathew - Are we talking Domestic or commercial!
What holes are you wanting to drill.
If you are talking waste pipes/shower outlets etc these are included in the cost of the job - if you can charge extra over meterage rate then do.
IMO it only becomes an issue in porcelain tiles and apart from the services pipes I won't offer to drill any holes. For all the water feeds/wastes etc its just as easy to cut the hole from the back of the tile with your wet saw when tiling then you will not have to drill from the front.
In commercial contracts you get paid to drill holes!

Its for domestic & site work for waste pipes ,shower mixers & hot & cold water feeds for sinks, cold feed for W.C.
Just that I've done alot of work on day rate and when it comes to pricing up jobs I'm trying to compare my day rate work to a meter rate so that hopefully I'm not over pricing from being slow. I'm trying to get the jist of what is included in the average meter price. Is that purely labour or does it include materials & holes for waste & feed for example?

I realise that everyone's meterage is different & will include different things, but I'm just interested in what you all do?

Thanks matt

rates are bad here in NI and i don't charge for holes either,
time for a change- charge more, lol.

i include the cost of drilling into the price, say a couple of pounds to cover the wear and tear to the drill bits. the labour can always be done in between tasks so i dont make a big deal out of that....if i spend x amount on drill bits and i make the money back plus a little bit of profit then thats fair to the customer and to me, everbodies happy.

its all in down here ,they would not pay it ,but they do pay for me to trim doors now £10 a time

How much per m2 I want to move to your town:lol:

I include it in the cost of the job.

Bathroom accessories, now theres a different ball game altogether!

I dont include the cost of fitting accessories ever. The accessories arent important to me when im pricing for a new bathroom as the layout, suite tiles etc is more important but i have been caught out before with a whole collection of them and it took me half a day to fit them.
