Cutting back existing floor tiles

D

I have a job to lay floor tiles in a new conservatory. When it was built outside of an existing external door the door was moved back this has left the existing kitchen floor tiles outside of the door. I need to cut these back to under the door. The last time I had to do something similar the customer had spare tiles so I just chopped out the row and relaid.

The tiles are the style that was popular about twenty years ago, with flat sides and a double curve at each end so that they interlock, if you know what I mean.

I had thought of using a stone cutting wheel on an angle grinder but this won't get right up to the skirting. Any one got any bright ideas?

Chris

PS I have tried to attach a sketch of the tile shape, don't know if this has worked.

not sure if im visualising this right but perhaps you could scribe a line on the tile where you want it cutting, then use your angle grinder as far as you can go along the line then for the last bit turn the disc so you are cutting at 90 degrees, from the end of the tile to the scribe line. just cut slots and then knock them off with a slim cold chisel.

I think the tile you refer to was called Provencale. Grinder with diamond wheel would be best.

great solution bigdaz...I presume the line will be covered by a plate....Gaz

Thanks for the advice guys, will give your suggestions a go, when I start the job the week after next.

Cheers
