Spoke to them today regarding this, don't know if it's true or not, just repeating what I was told

Funding is availiable for anybody without an NVQ (that NVQ could be for anything)

Funding is being pulled for NVQ's in 4-5 weeks, He seems to think they are replacing it with something else which may have funding

Regulation of the industry will happen 'sooner or later'

The bit about needing an NVQ to obtain insurance is a rumour that he has heard from 3 different people, not confirmed in any way.

He has brought this up at last TTA meeting

As I say just repeating what he told me, I suppose it's up to you to believe what you want.

So he's spreading rumours? To gain students?

Hmmmm. Enough said I think.

Rob, My apologies I just found an email from Phil Reid (TTA) I had missed it. About the rumours re: level 2 NVQ Public liability ins. They find no truth to it at this time. Funding to be reviewed 1st aug. Confirmed anyone wishing to work on a UKCG site must have the appropriate CSCS for wall and floor tiling to be recognised as a skilled worker on site. They must have achieved the level 2 NVQ in wall and floor tiling, either through EWPA testing or via OSAT assesment.

TTA will continue to monitor, and will advise of any planned changes:thumbsup:

how is Phil i haven't seen him for a bit. if you speak to him tell him Dean from SBC said hello.

Hi all, we haven't heard anything about this and believe me if it was worth knowing then we would!

Funding across the board has taken a dip over the past month or so and what with qualifications changing, the LSC changing over to the SFA and a new government in place it could take a few months to settle back down.

Just read a blog by Jo Beth @ Tile UK Magazine, pretty much says the same as Mark from STC but i don't think there is any firm evidence in place to support it and we believe that it will eventually happen but is not on the cards just yet. Training rumours: fact or fiction?

Remember as well before you start to criticize Mark from STC for trying to scare people in to getting qualified, that he has clearly said that STC is not the only provider with this funding, its FREE and as a skilled industry we should all be trying our best to get qualified anyway regardless of what centre is used to deliver the qualification.

Good Luck

I spoke to STC today (long story as to why) and, apparently, I have been accepted for a fully funded NVQ2. I have to fill out a load of paperwork and then an assessor will contact me to visit me on a job or two. I don't have to attend a course, I don't have to shell out any cash, just a bit of time spent on paperwork and site assessments.

I'm not at all bothered whether I get the NVQ or not as long as it is not going to cost me dosh. I'll keep you informed of my progress.

Thats who I done mine with and never cost me a penny:thumbsup:

The cscs issue still confuses me.
When I was working at Westfield Shopping Centre in London, the site was filled with between 5000 & 8000 workers at any one time. There were turnstiles at entrance and exit, you had to have CSCS to get on site.
Yet there were hundreds,if not thousands of non UK, non British speaking workers there, all with CSCS cards, most labouring,so obviously un-qualified.
How do they get their cards ? Yet experienced tradesmen do not ??

One thing that I guess is worth noting is that the egg timer is running out.
Today is 20th July 2010 so if anyone does want to apply for free funding
then now is the time to do it.

On the 1st August this thread is then 100% non relevent because if you are
to agree with the content of the email then "funds are no longer available"

Again at 365Drills I want to emphasise that we have no opinion either way
as to whether or not the email comments and claims are accurate. But if
they are to believed then you only have days left to apply.

And feel free to use www.tilingcoursescompanies.co.uk to find a local training centre.

cscs cards is a way they track your movements , the truth is they dont want self employed as it cost them money , thing about it when self employed you are supposed to price your own work , they have been trying for years to get everybody on the cards, as the company has to pay a levy in NI 13% - now it will affect the tiler that works for one contractor all the time once cscs cards come into to law ,

If you are foreigner the cscs cards are alot easier to get , they get more help than you , :mad2::mad2::mad2::mad2:
