We just put my late mum's house on the market yesterday afternoon, and we've got somebody viewing it today. I know a viewing isn't an offer to buy but has anyone had a quick turnaround on selling their house lately?

my bro in law has put his house on a few weeks ago and its had quite a few viewings

he hasnt sold it but that could be more to do with the layout. its an extended 4 bed which was then a 5 bed but he converted it back to a 4bed with ensuite, which is fair enough, should still sell

but the kitchens too small for a family home and it has no utility so the washing machines plumbed into the downstairs loo with a dryer on top

he has two dining rooms

so my suggestions are

put kitchen into dining room so it has a large family kitchen, utility into kitchen so it has a large usable utility rm, use other dining room as a dining room

fit a shower into the cloakroom downstairs and he has something a growing family could use

he was not impressed at my suggestions but hasnt ruled them out

the other thing ive told him is to paint the exterior , flaking fascias dont impress anyone

he thinks im just looking for work out of him

funny he should say that.......... ho hum

My folks have had their house on the market for 3 years, had 2 viewings and no offers, they live in a nice little village ( Gainford ) between Darlington and Barnard Castle, a tidy 3 bedroom semi, nice big garden to the rear, conservatory etc, can't understand it :mad2:

sorry to hear that Alan:thumbsdown: have they considered changing estate agents? We went with the one that we felt gave the most realistic valuation, another EA valued it at 35K above what we are asking:thumbsup:

They have done mate, twice iirc, they've reduced it down as far as they can, thing is they bought at the wrong time, only 5 years ago, so not looking good for a sale any time soon.

doug, it took 11 months to sell our old house as we put it on during the summer of 2007. there's a more houses on our estate going on now but some others have been on the market for 2 years. i'm not holding my breath.... need to sell my house soon as it's becoming an expensive noose around the neck

whereabouts Liz? Laibach and Prestatyn:lol::lol:

no, Pembrokeshire. it's a beautiful area

Gryf Rhys-Jones has just bought a big farm house down there and he's got a show on BBC2 Wales about the restoration of all the buildings.

We struggled to sell my girlfirends house when she relocated. Was 2 years old and 4 bed detached in a nice area of Burton on Trent. Was on the market for 15 months and empty before we finally sold it and took a hit on it. That was before the recession too!

were going to pendine in september

I've never been there Mike but it's literally about 15 minutes drive from where I was staying this week. I did consider detouring to have a look at Pendine beach but I thought I would belt it home instead. I can always go back down later on in the year.

i saw a programme on tenby and it looked a great place to live, i would move somewhere like that but its just the work situation that would concern me a bit....

thinking about it Ed. what's really twisted my arm is seeing all the families getting down on the beach where I was staying, even tho the weather wasn't that fantastic. and it just occurred to me that raising a family in a place like that would be wonderful... sand, sea, lots of beautiful countryside and fresh air, lots of local businesses and local produce... just seems like a better way of life to me :hurray:

lol Liz, mum's hasn't got a beach, but a cracking place to raise a family, (well my mum and dad had 7 kids there), woods to the back, fields to the left, field and river to the right, (la8 9dh on google street view:smilewinkgrin🙂

were thinking of moving that way in a few years time

well be able to go to the darby and joan club together:hurray:

about 2 miles outta Kendal, so you have the country lifestyle without being to far from shops etc:thumbsup:

What a sunny day that was took on doug...

Looks nice and tranquil..
...which is surprising as it looks like my car poking out of mums driveway, so I can only think I must've taken H and G out for a walk:lol:

you can just see front end of it in driveway, black megane. If you look face on, mum's house is the right hand side of the cherry tree, painted magnolia semi:thumbsup:
