What Size Metal Trim For 9mm Tiles?

G

gooty

im fitting 300x600 tiles that are 9mm thick.

i read on here that i should use a 10mm round trowel for that size tile and that it will squash down to 6mm.

I assumed that would mean id need 15mm trim but someone at topps tiles said otherwise.

can anyone advise what i need to do/buy?

thanks

For 9mm tiles, depending on the condition of your walls, a 8mm trowel with the tiles being back skimmed.

Trims tend to be a couple mil bigger than the thickness of the tile.

Depends, sometimes the middle of the tile can be slightly thicker than the edge. Take an off cut to your local friendly tile shop.

The thickness of the adhesive bed is irrelevant it's the tile thickness that's covered so 10mm is my choice.

thanks guys.

so an 8mm square notched trowel is fine for large tiles like 600mm x 300mm?

and that depth of adhesive will squash down to 1mm thick to make up for the difference between the 9mm tile and the 10mm trim?

8mm notch will be fine so long as your walls aren't all over the show. You don't need to worry about the adhesive compressing down to 1mm as when fitted, the trim won't have that amount of adhesive under it, when pressed into the back of the tile it will sit almost flush to the back of it. You'll see what we all mean when you fit them. Don't go any deeper than a 10mm trim or you'll be building adhesive up an unnecessary amount.
