Silicon around bathroom floor

I am thinking it would give a nice neat edge to Silicon around the edge of my bathroom floor.
Is this advisable, or should I stay with grout?

It's a big matter of opinion mark, some say Silicon and some say grout. Go have a look at the other thread posted by Stef and you will see a lot of argument for and against the two options

aaah! So do you mean all internal corners on that particular job, or all internal corners?

All internal corners are classified as movement joints whether it's tiling purposes or not.
That's why you will have tapers doing internal corner tapes.
It is 2 different surfaces so must be treated that way, that's the purpose of the Silicon.

Pretty sure on some bags of grout it says along the lines of 'internal corners to be filled with Silicon'..

I've definitely seen it, but can't say which brand it was...

Mapei Ultracolour plus is one of many that do!!!

Oh, and Weber too!

Anybody care to phone their grout manufacturer to speak with their tech depth and get their opinion on it? I'm pretty sure I don't have to tell you all what the answer will be from each and every one of them!?

That's what the grout manufacturers say, what do they know?
I've been doing it that way for 40 years & never had a problem!!

Same as a tiler I spoke to that's been tiling 25yrs & still uses PVA!!

Same as a tiler I heard ordering 6mm ply in CTD, it's only a small floor it will be ok!!

You get the jist, I could go on.

I didn't do a whole weeks, well 4 days as day 5 was stone tiling course to suddenly throw it all in the bin and abandon the rules. Incorporate expansion in to your work or fail!

Tile to tile, you want to Silicon, so it's water tight (or as water tight as it can be anyway...) 😉

Or you could double pack with grout and Silicon... Best of both world then.... Or is it the worst lol

You've changed your tune lol

Anyone who can make an expansion joint look anything better than average is a better man than me, apart from the fact they are not meant to be grouted!! Interestingly, I was grouting with micro max smoke a few weeks ago and was aware we had no matching Silicon so I grouted all the corner joints, I was not overly proud of the result but the customer was happy. Maybe we look to closely in to our work who knows but I will be sticking to Silicon for movement joints and grout for grout joints.

No, I have not changed my tune, grouting internal movement joints is completely wrong, even though others with lots of experience do it. First post quote was sarcasm, by grouting and silicon you are getting the worst of both world because your not getting any movement plus I doubt how aesthetically pleasing the Silicon would be over grout. Yes, a few weeks ago I grouted a movement joint as I knew I had no matching Silicon... Lock me up!!
