Is it just me or has enyone else had this problem? Cutting L shape (check outs) from glass tiles. Tried all ways, but still get one edge spelching. Hope someone can suggest a way. Maybe its just me being thick:mad2:

What wheel you using ? You can get glass cutting wheels...dont have one myself though.

Cheers mate yeah I have tried glass blade on Plasplugs Master tiler flat bed. Also bridge saw, straight cuts no probs but L shapes no joy:ban:

Phil you are not alone!

When it comes to cutting glass tiles some diamond wheels perform better on some glass tiles but there can be a trial and error in the disc selection. Even expensive wheels can cause splits.

We were sent this tile

And as you can see the disc was only getting a small way in before the glass split.

They tried numerous wheels. Score-and-Snap. They tried wet wheels and they tried radial cutters.

In the end they found a blade that could do it but not before a lot of experimenting. Perhaps Dave at Trade-Tiler can help you on blade selection.

And now for your extra problem of doing them tricky L cuts! As you can see from above even straight cuts in glass proved troublesome.

So my advise again is to talk to Dave.

We were sent that piece because they had a nightmare DRILLING glass as well so we supplied them with the correct diamond core drills.

Cutting and Drilling Glass can be an expensive nightmare..

But with the right discs and the right drills it can be done.

Best of luck !

Ahhh i remember about 2 years ago i had some large glass tiles and had the same problem so i cut the 1st cut with a wet cutter and the the 2nd to make the L shape cut on a Rubi...It worked !

Cutting L shape I always drill first glass tile, after a while glass start cracking if you not drilling it, before using wet saw or grinder try score it first with snap cutter and cut on bad side of the tile it helps sometimes

hi phil

i have a little briccolina wet cutter with a blade from tt, its the sankyo diamond blade and its very thin..

i like don, score the line a couple of times and then cut but a take it very carefully and then turn the glass tile over near the end and cut from the other side t avoid over cutting if theres a painted coating...

those master tiler saws tend to suffer from wobbly spindles and that might be causing some of the problem too

ed

never have problems cutting glass tiles, take my time. even with the back of the tile painted. you have to lift the tile up so it doesnt remove the paint.

have a look at the one in the corner,(at a different level to the rest of them) it was an after thought extra so didnt have enough new fronts to put on i think. said before i tiled it was at a different height but they said it would be ok, then guess what, when i was done they said it stuck out like a sore thumb.

marcrost for me top blade even better drills but loads of dosh

I use a diamond router bit for glass attached to a normal router. It cuts L shapes ,curves, square holes and round holes. The bit costs £25 but will cut about 50 tiles.
The bit is 4mm in diameter but must be kept wet.
