Hi,

Has anyone come across an orange fibre sheet that you put onto walls to make them waterproof and then tile on to that? Apparently they use in America.

Just wondering if its available here?

Cheers

It's called kerdi mat from schluter and is widely available over here.....i use it all the time..

How easy is the stuff to use? And where is the cheapest place to buy from?

Obviously you'll be using twice the amount of adhesive, once for the sticking the fabric on the wall, and again for putting up the tiles.

Thanks

You only use a small toothed trowel to apply it and then a suitable trowel to suit your tile format....

Durabase wp is also another membrane and is available from wetdecs online here at tilers forums...it is easy to apply , just like wall papering..

here is a video of how to apply it..whether you use kerdi mat or any other..

this particular brand is available here>>>> Wetdecs wet room supplier, wet room shower tray, tanking. waterproofing from leading wetroom company.

Hi apache,

I've used a lot of Kerdi, and the trick with it is getting all the corners, folds and accessory pieces installed correctly and without too many lumps and humps.

Schluter support via their reps is very good here in the US...if it is the same in the UK I would suggest taking advantage of their advice before using the product for the first time. I went to a training session before I used the product and I thought it was a good investment in my time.
