Hi all, going to price my first job tomorrow, its a kitchen, punter wants me to tile over existing tiles,is this recommended?what adhesive/sealant should i use?,should all walls be primed, dont know what tiles are on the wall as wont see him till tomorrow morning at 9am,got the call yesterday.im a bit nervous so any guidance from you chaps would be a great help, many thanks to all.🙂

Would be better to advise customer to remove old tiles first.....you wont know how well these are fixed and you dont want to inherit someone else's tiling..
prime walls with bal bond-- ratio 4 parts water to 1 part bond..make good walls ..
acrylic adhesive will be fine....

Thanks for prompt reply, the punter is a friends dad and he is adamant he wants tille over tile, should i walk way if he sticks to his guns, its my first job and dont want to seem picky, any advice would be welcome mate, thanks again.🙂

Dont get me wrong tiles can be tiled over....if the are in exposed areas then you will have double tile thickness showing...

But if he is adamant to tile over them ... then wash down with sugar soap and use bal whitestar to tile with......dave..

Can you advice me which trowel/grout to use mate?thaks for your replys,Dean.

just use a thinset trowel ( 4mm) will be fine...use bal super flex wall grout........dave

Will probably say this on the whitestar but if tiling over tile you need to wait longer before grouting for the adhesive to dry properly. 3 days if I remember rightly.

Yes it will take longer to set on impervious backgrounds...so you could use a spf adhesive if want to fastrack the grouting process......

Its just that tub gear is easier for newcomers to use ...rather than powder mix which has a shorter pot life...thus wasting adhesive.................dave..
