Hello all,
I am new to the site and woukd appreciate any advice at all,

I am having an extension done and have spotted a large porcelain tile 800x800 I like. Our builder is planning to use a dry mix screed 75mm and we have got water underfloor heating planned. As it is a large area to tile, approx 40sq metres ( throughout a mix of rooms eg kitchen diner toilet room and utility)i want to get it right.

what is the best adhesive to use for such large tiles and on a dry mix ,do we need to use a mat? heard of ditra mats from the site.

Also these tiles are massive i can't even lift them, do I need a specialist tiler or would all good tilers manage to lay them? I haven't sorted my tiled yet and want to know what I'm talking about before deciding!

Also should I wait months before laying the tile after screed down?? My builder said can't switch underfloor on for a few months anyway but could lay tiles.

hope this is not too many questions!?

Thanks for any help
Sarah

Hi sarah! I would 100% use a decoupling membrane such a ditra or durabase. All tilers have there own preferences for adhesive. But a good single part flexible addy should surface. Once the screed had dried. The heating will need commissioning and brought up to temperature slowly. Then turned off while fixing takes place. There are more knowledgable tilers on here than me who will advise you on screed drying times ect. Try posting on this forum to find a tiler in your area!
