Tiling Cscs Cards - Blue Card Nvq Level 2 For Domestic Jobs Soon

I hope your right mate....I really do......I just think the domestic market is a million miles away from the contract work. You can't really compare what we do to electrics or gas safe.....were unlikely to blow someone's house up tiling the bathroom..

Its closer than you think, when an insurance company insists that the tradesmen are all qualified, and it is a question they do enquire, to provide public liability to a builder, then that builder is obliged to use tradesmen with a NVQ or his policy is void, it affects you directly, if a householders building / contents policy states that they must use a qualified person, it may be void, so it may directly affect you in the very near future, its not just contractors, as I'm trying to get across to you, it will affect tilers very quickly, and if you're not recognised within the NVQ umbrella you'll get left behind, and will only serve non enquiring clients that are not aware.
take for instance the bathroom fitter, that had to become part p. overnight.

Did I read right on a previous post, that you can actually gain access onto building sites as a Tiler using the green CSCS card?

Yes , thats all i have. However , it runs out in MAY and they don't do them anymore so I'm doing the NVQ 2 thing to get the trade specific card. If I was only doinf domestic I wouldn't bother , but for personal reasons I'm now mostly site work. Contractors now seem to be asking for trade spec cards if they don't know you.

Diggy

Well i passed my test in 15 minuets yesterday ! 🙂 ,they were very strict checking me out , they even took my tissues away and gave me clean ones ! , i have a white card saying specialist renderer !! so how do i get it changed to the tiling one as well ??

Tiling experienced worker 2 day course. Assessment first 1 hour. Try able skills at Dartford. ;-)

What after 40 years !!! don't i get grandfathers rights 🙂 well as i said been asked twice in the last 5-6 odd years and nobody has said i cant do there pool , we should have a specialist pool one anyway so we can keep the tilers out of our work 🙂 ?

You can if you are an insurance company paying out for water damage and it stats in your policy that any work must be completed by a qualified tradesman.

Your portfolio is your card.

Dose 30 years plus doing the same job not make you a qualified?

I got no intention working for builders, on site, or doing any commercial work......99% of my business comes from recommendation or referals...and not once has any customer asked to see my cscs card or nvq.....if it comes to the piont where you have to have one to work self employed in any trade doing nothing but private work....then I would get them.....l got about 10 years work left in me and I can't see it happening by then....lol

No m8 30 years makes you experienced the bit of paper makes you qualified.

How will the multi traders or general builders cope.

Would they need an nvq in every trade they do to make them qualfied.

On a building site its very much one trade dose one job......in the domestic maket......its very different. Most of us strip walls and prep them. Re- board floors , box in pipes......some even plane doors and plinths....but lets not go there..lol

Great if it could work...might stop some of the builders pretending to be tilers. ...won't hold my breath just yet though. .

I have never read anything from the TTA about this change and they are still encouraging unqualified tilers to apply for membership. If the drive for this isn't coming from the TTA, then where is it being driven from?

I don't think it is a change it is just an industry working towards a qualified workforce. They have a good grip on the commercial side of things it is only a mater of time before they turn there attention to the domestic market.

That is why it is easier for the domestic tilers to hit the criteria in an NVQ. Most site tilers have to use privet work to hit some of the units required as evidence.

why is that m8 ??

Because of the general public thereself, price allways seems to be an issue and they all know Bob down the road who will do it for such and such.

Don't get me wrong mate I would love to see it happen but just can't see it working at the moment.

I can see it coming and i think it is only a few years away.

Actually had a good laugh doing the test , as I did it with another tiler I've known for donkeys years . It was pretty straight forward stuff , no power tools allowed , this was mainly for testing the ability to cut quarries around a drain. Sorry about the naff pics , phone aint much cop.

Cutting quarries with nippers? What a maul. I'm sure that's designed just to drag the process out?!

As we went along the guy asks questions , takes pics etc , then at the end records a 20 min conversation individually , to make sure you can talk the talk , as well as walk the walk as it were.
Whitebeam , yes , that is the practical test , designed by one of the top honchos at the TTA as I understand it , whom I spoke to year or so ago.

Dan , the nippers were just to show you could do it without power tools. My m8 and I were the first to do it without breaking a quarry apparently.

Diggy .

Does anyone know anywhere in the Yorkshire region that does not charge silly money, ie £750 for a experienced tiler to get his NVQ ?
I have a lad who has being tiling 20 years that I need to get, on a NVQ course
