Sean SML Tiling

I would like to see 2 categories for jotm 1 for basic work and 1 for specialist tiling. Alot of us dont do specialist tiling on a dialy basis so dont post their basic work in jotm because you wouldn't win. At least this way more people have a chance of winning. What do you guys think of this?

Sean

I don't see how it would work Sean, what's the cut off point for specialist and more run-of-the-mill work?

Very true. Just a thought really. Still early in the morning so brain doesnt function till 10 🙂

Tiling is tiling and the quality of the fixing is what counts! We do lots of 'basic' tiling but I would only want to show work that stands out as being 'special/interesting/different' to share with like minded tradesmen.
From what I've seen of late the quality of the work is extremely good and therefore it keeps the standard of our trade high!

Its not the winning its the taking part.
Enter your best work from the month and use it as another avenue to showcase your work on the net rather than a competition.

Sean, however might have a point, not everyone has the opportunity to work with great materials, or great proportioned rooms etc. It doesn't stop them from doing a great job, doing the job to the best possible standard. I'd split it into stone/marble/mosaic, and the other for porcelain. Just an idea I am throwing up in the air which will probably come showering down with the wrath of some...

Pebbs

Pebbs - that's an absolutely ridiculous idea!
And a section for Victorian.

I've touched on the subject before, certain I have.

Either way I do think it's a good idea, but think we need an increase in volume of entries before its worth looking into.

I have said in the past a good entry for JOTM doesn't have to be a top class high end shiny bathroom walls or a fancy floor, or even a well executed geometric floor.

As TJ says, tiling is tiling. Be it a swimming pool, vaulted ceiling, Victorian floor reproduction/restoration,or a 3,000.00 m2 floor we should be able to cope with them all, that IMHO is what makes a tiler.

I have seen some very good work on TF, I have also seen some very poor efforts, by people who seem to think they are tilers.

JOTM should stay as it is, a showcase for real tilers, we don't need separate categories. Just my 2p worth.

Enter your work in the appropriate category
Best splash back
Grouter of the month
Best swept floor
Come on if you have something you are proud of put it in if not sit back and admire the work on show like the rest of us do.

I consider ALL of my tile and stone fixing "specialist" no matter what it is or how big or small.

Pebbs

Lol. What about bog standard at best. 🙂

it'd also mean a lot more work for mods/admin if there was different categories.
